Sydney Sweeney isn’t ruling out a trip to Barbie Land, and she sounds pretty excited about the idea.

In a recent interview while promoting her Baskin-Robbins commercial, Sweeney talked about the playful vibe of the ad, which shows her chasing her love for ice cream. “We had this really funny idea: What if I’m constantly there or trying to break in? So, they made it playful. I was happy about that because it really shows my love for Baskin-Robbins,” she said.

She also admitted that she didn’t hold back when it came to eating on set. “Well, the problem is I kept eating all the ones that they gave me. I’d half-eat one, and I’d half-eat the next one because they’d keep handing me really nice new cones. I’m like, ‘Well, I got to eat it.’ It was definitely one of the happiest moments of my life.”

The commercial had a Y2K Barbie feel, and when asked about possibly joining the Barbie universe in a sequel, Sweeney didn’t hesitate. “I’d have to read a script, but I’m a huge, huge fan of Margot [Robbie], so I would not be opposed to it,” she said. When told they could play sisters, she smiled and said, “Me too.”

Sweeney also talked about a few of her upcoming roles and why they mean a lot to her.

She said she was really inspired by boxer Christy Martin’s story. Christy had a tough life both in and out of the boxing ring, and Sydney admired her strength and courage. She also said she loved getting to physically train for the role because she’s always been into sports like kickboxing.

In Ron Howard’s new movie Eden, Sydney plays Margret Wittmer, a real woman who left Germany in the 1930s to live on a remote island in the Galapagos. Sydney said it’s a wild true story and she enjoyed learning about the real people involved.

She said she loves playing real-life people because she enjoys doing the research and learning as much as she can. She’s also excited to play old Hollywood star Kim Novak next year and can’t wait to start preparing for that role.

Sydney also mentioned her upcoming film The Housemaid, which she made with Amanda Seyfried. She said she was already a fan of the book and that filming the movie was a fun and dream-like experience. She said it was a quick shoot, but she’s really excited for people to see it.

As fans continue to hope for a follow-up to the smash hit Barbie, the idea of Sweeney joining the cast has taken off online. Directed by Greta Gerwig and starring Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling, Barbie was one of the most celebrated movies of 2023. It holds an 88% score on Rotten Tomatoes and an “A” CinemaScore from audiences.

At first, Gerwig said she had no plans for a sequel. Back in July 2023, she told fans there weren’t any ideas in motion. Later reports claimed that a sequel was in early development with Gerwig and co-writer Noah Baumbach possibly returning. However, Warner Bros., Gerwig, and Baumbach have all denied those rumors.

Still, the buzz hasn’t gone away, and Sweeney’s name is now part of that conversation. With her current projects in motion, like The Housemaid and a film about boxer Christy Martin, her schedule is filling up. But if Barbie needs a sister, she sounds ready.

We’ll have to wait and see if Barbie Land calls.
