Wonder Man Ignites: New Look Showcases Hero’s Explosive Powers and Surprising MCU Comeback
Marvel is finally giving fans a proper look at Wonder Man, and it’s already turning heads. A brand new promo from Disney+ shows Yahya Abdul-Mateen II stepping into the role of Simon Williams, a Hollywood actor who suddenly finds himself with some seriously intense superpowers.
This new footage is the first real peek at the live-action show, and Simon is clearly struggling. One moment, he’s smashing a table. Another, he’s screaming in pain. It’s not all action, though; there’s also a brief scene where Simon is talking to Trevor Slattery, once again played by Sir Ben Kingsley.
Fans will remember Slattery from Iron Man 3, where he pretended to be the Mandarin, and then again in Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. Now he’s back, and it looks like he’ll be part of Simon’s wild story.
The show is being developed by Shang-Chi director Destin Daniel Cretton and will be the next big Marvel series after Ironheart. It’s set to arrive in December 2025 and will have eight episodes. According to Marvel, Wonder Man will fall under the Marvel Spotlight banner. That means the story stands on its own and doesn’t rely too much on the bigger Marvel universe.
Even though it’s a smaller corner of the MCU, Wonder Man already looks massive. The footage shows Simon’s powers in action for the first time, and they’re no joke. In the comics, he gets his powers from Baron Zemo and ends up joining the Avengers. He’s got insane strength, sharp senses, fast reflexes, and can heal quickly.
But with all that power comes a lot of pain. The clips make it clear that Simon is having a hard time controlling what’s happening to him. What’s different here is that in the comics, Simon becomes an actor after being a superhero. But in the show, he’s already an actor when things start to fall apart.
Besides Abdul-Mateen II and Kingsley, the series will also feature Ed Harris and Demetrius Grosse. With a mix of drama, action, and some familiar MCU faces, Wonder Man could turn out to be one of the most emotional shows Marvel has done yet.
And this is just the beginning. If the show hits like fans are hoping, Simon Williams could be a major player in the MCU’s future.
