Another Night of Magic Is Coming to the Museum – New “Night at the Museum” Movie Is in the Works
It looks like the museum isn’t done with its nightly adventures just yet. A brand-new movie from the Night at the Museum franchise is in the works, according to Variety. This time, it’s not a sequel but a fresh reimagining with all-new characters and a different story. The movie is being developed by 20th Century Studios and 21 Laps Entertainment.
Tripper Clancy has been hired to write the script. He’s known for movies and shows like Stuber, I Am Not Okay With This, and the Die Hart series. The project is being produced by Shawn Levy and Dan Levine, with Emily Morris overseeing it for 21 Laps.
Shawn Levy directed the first three Night at the Museum movies, which began back in 2006. That first film became a hit, thanks to its fun idea of museum exhibits coming to life after dark. Ben Stiller played Larry Daley, a night guard who suddenly had to deal with talking statues and roaming dinosaurs. The cast also included big names like Robin Williams, Owen Wilson, Rami Malek, and Dick Van Dyke.
Since then, the franchise has grown. There were two more live-action films in 2009 and 2014, plus an animated follow-up in 2022. That animated film was directed by Matt Danner and featured a new voice cast, including Joshua Bassett and Zachary Levi.
The Night at the Museum series is based on a children’s book by Milan Trenc. It mixes fantasy, comedy, and lots of heart. While reviews have been mixed over the years, the movies have gained a loyal fanbase.
In 2022, writer Thomas Lennon shared that he’d love to return to the franchise for another live-action movie. He said the animated film “opens up a lot of new possibilities.” And now, with this new project moving forward, it seems some of those possibilities are finally being explored.
There’s no word yet on what the story will be about or who will star, but it’s clear the museum still has more magic to share.
