Sydney Sweeney Might Be the Next Bond Girl, and Everyone’s Talking About It

Sydney Sweeney could be taking on one of the biggest roles in Hollywood: the next Bond girl. The 27-year-old actress, who’s known for her part in Euphoria, is reportedly the top pick for the upcoming James Bond movie.

The information comes from The Sun on Sunday, which says that director Denis Villeneuve is eyeing Sydney for the role.

He’s the new man in charge of the 007 series and was officially named director just last month. Amazon, which now has control of the Bond films, is also said to be supporting the idea, including Jeff Bezos himself.

A source told The Sun, “Sydney is the top name on the casting sheet for Bond. Denis believes she is hugely talented, as well as having an alluring appeal to younger generations, vital in modernising the franchise.”

It’s not just about looks either. The insider also said, “They’ve hung out together a lot and he has admired her stratospheric rise. Plus Sydney has the quality of being athletic and able to perform physical scenes, as well as being feminine and following in the legacy of the Bond girls.”

This next Bond movie is going to be different in a lot of ways. Daniel Craig stepped down after No Time To Die in 2021, and a brand-new actor will take on the 007 role. Villeneuve, who’s known for his stunning visuals and deep storytelling, has said he wants to stick to the roots of Bond while also opening the door to new adventures.

Speaking about the franchise, Denis said, “Some of my earliest movie-going memories are connected to 007. I grew up watching James Bond films with my father, ever since Dr No with Sean Connery. To me, he’s sacred territory. I intend to honour the tradition and open the path for many new missions to come.”

Amazon MGM’s Mike Hopkins also had high praise for the director. He said, “Denis has delivered compelling worlds, dynamic visuals, complex characters, and – most importantly – the immersive storytelling that global audiences yearn to experience in theatres. James Bond is in the hands of one of today’s greatest filmmakers and we cannot wait to get started on 007’s next adventure.”

As for Sydney, she’s not shy about pushing herself. In an interview with W Magazine, she said, “In general, if something scares me, then usually I’m going to do it, because that means I’m challenging myself.” She also spoke openly about filming nude scenes, saying, “I don’t get nervous [about shooting nude scenes]… I think that the female body is a very powerful thing. And I’m telling my character’s story, so I owe it to them to tell it well and to do what needs to be done.”

With her talent, confidence, and fast rise in the industry, it’s no surprise people are calling her a perfect fit for the Bond world. Nothing is official yet, but the buzz is loud, and growing.
