Stranger Things fans finally have some big news to be excited about. Netflix has officially confirmed that the fifth and last season of the hit show is coming soon. This final chapter, called Stranger Things 5, will arrive in three parts. The first set of episodes will land on November 26, 2025.

More episodes will drop on December 25, and then the grand finale will come on December 31. In total, there will be eight episodes. According to Netflix, the Duffer brothers, who created the show, are once again in charge. Shawn Levy and Dan Cohen are also back to help produce the ending of the story.

The story will pick up in 1987, about a year after the events of season four. After Hawkins was torn open by rifts, the group’s new goal is simple but dangerous: find Vecna and kill him. But that mission won’t be easy. Things get even harder when the military shows up in Hawkins and starts chasing Eleven. As the anniversary of Will Byers’ disappearance comes closer, the group must face their biggest challenge yet. Netflix teases that they will battle something more powerful and deadly than ever before.

To build up the excitement, Netflix has just released a new poster for the upcoming season. It shows Vecna, proving he’s far from gone and still a serious threat.

Of course, fans can expect to see all the familiar faces again. Winona Ryder is back as Joyce. David Harbour returns as Hopper. Millie Bobby Brown will once again play Eleven, who now goes by Jane Hopper. Mike, Dustin, Lucas, Will, and Max will also return, played by Finn Wolfhard, Gaten Matarazzo, Caleb McLaughlin, Noah Schnapp, and Sadie Sink. Nancy, Jonathan, Steve, and Robin will be back too, played by Natalia Dyer, Charlie Heaton, Joe Keery, and Maya Hawke. Brett Gelman, Priah Ferguson, Cara Buono, and Jamie Campbell Bower will also return.

Amybeth McNulty, who had a small part in the previous season, now joins as a full-time character. Fans of classic films will recognize Linda Hamilton, who joins the main cast for this final season.

There are also some side characters coming back. Joe Chrest is playing Ted Wheeler again, and Nell Fisher returns as Holly Wheeler. New characters will appear too, including Derek Turnbow, Lt. Akers, and Lt. Colonel Jack Sullivan, who fans may remember from earlier episodes.

The creators, Matt and Ross Duffer, have been open about the future of Stranger Things. Back in February 2022, they wrote a letter to fans where they explained that season four would be released in two parts. They also mentioned a future spinoff and confirmed that Netflix had given them the green light for a final season. Years ago, they had originally planned for the story to end with season four, but by 2017, they were already thinking about extending it. After seeing how popular the show remained, they decided on a fifth season.

Interestingly, the planning for season five began even before season four was released. The COVID-19 pandemic slowed down filming, but it gave the Duffer brothers time to map out the full story for the final season. After fans watched season four, the Duffers made changes to the ending of the series based on the reactions they got. They even reworked some major storylines.

As reported by Netflix, some talented directors are helping with this final season. Dan Trachtenberg was hired in 2023 to direct one of the episodes. Shawn Levy will also direct at least one episode. One surprising addition is Frank Darabont, known for movies like The Shawshank Redemption. He actually came out of retirement just to direct two episodes, after he and his wife shared that they are big fans of the show.

Netflix confirmed that the release of Stranger Things 5 will be split into three drops. The first release, which includes four episodes, is set for November 26, 2025. A second batch of three episodes will follow on December 25. Then, the series will end with a final episode on December 31.
