Joseph Quinn and Ebon Moss-Bachrach are officially joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe next week with the release of Fantastic Four: First Steps, hitting theaters worldwide.

Quinn takes on the role of Johnny Storm, better known as the Human Torch, while Bachrach will play Ben Grimm, also called the Thing. Fans are excited, but that’s not all, both actors will return as these characters in the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday, the next big movie in the Avengers series.

Details about the plot of Avengers: Doomsday are still a secret, but the cast is packed with familiar faces and new stars. When BBC asked Joseph Quinn and Ebon Moss-Bachrach to share a few words teasing the movie, they didn’t hold back. Quinn described it as “Epic. Mental. Robert Downey Jr.” Bachrach added, “Epic. Tragic. Intergalactic. Starry.” Those words alone have fans buzzing with anticipation.

Avengers: Doomsday is the fifth Avengers film and the 39th installment in the MCU. The movie is directed by Anthony and Joe Russo. The script is by Michael Waldron and Stephen McFeely.

The film features a massive cast, including Chris Hemsworth, Vanessa Kirby, Anthony Mackie, Sebastian Stan, Letitia Wright, Paul Rudd, Wyatt Russell, Tenoch Huerta Mejía, Simu Liu, Florence Pugh, and many others. The story brings together the Avengers, Wakandans, the Fantastic Four, the New Avengers, and the original X-Men to battle Doctor Doom, who is played by Robert Downey Jr.

The movie has had an interesting journey. Back in July 2022, Marvel announced two Avengers films, The Kang Dynasty and Secret Wars, which would wrap up Phase Six and “The Multiverse Saga.” At that time, Destin Daniel Cretton was set to direct The Kang Dynasty, with Jonathan Majors returning as Kang the Conqueror.

But after some changes in late 2023, including Cretton leaving and Majors being fired due to legal issues, Marvel switched gears. The Russo brothers came back to direct, Michael Waldron took over as writer, and Robert Downey Jr. was cast as the new villain, Doctor Doom. The subtitle Doomsday was revealed in July 2024. Filming started in April 2025 at Pinewood Studios in England, with additional scenes shot in England and Bahrain.

Avengers: Doomsday is set for release in the U.S. on December 18, 2026, as part of Phase Six of the MCU. Its sequel, Secret Wars, will follow on December 17, 2027.

The story takes place fourteen months after the events of Thunderbolts (2025). It’s an epic showdown with the Avengers, Wakandans, Fantastic Four, New Avengers, and the original X-Men teaming up to face Doctor Doom’s threat.
