The extended cut, which originally came out on DVD back in 2007, adds about eight minutes of extra footage to the movie. One of the standout scenes in the new version shows J. Jonah Jameson, played by J.K. Simmons, wearing Spider-Man’s suit in a comedic moment that fans have loved for years.

More than twenty years after the original Spider-Man movies hit cinemas, Spider-Man 2 is still considered by many fans and critics to be one of the best superhero films ever made. Tobey Maguire returns as Peter Parker, with Kirsten Dunst as Mary Jane, James Franco as Harry Osborn, and Alfred Molina as the villain, Doctor Octopus.

Fathom Entertainment’s CEO Ray Nutt shared his excitement in a press release. He said, “The success of ‘Spider-Man’ in 2002 helped launch the modern era of superhero films. To this day, Tobey Maguire’s take on Spider-Man resonates across generations. At Fathom Entertainment, we celebrate fandom and I am delighted that ‘Spider-Man 2.1’ in 4K will make its theatrical debut, a true gift for longtime fans and a thrilling discovery for new ones.”

According to the announcement, the original Spider-Man will return to theaters on September 26 and October 3, followed by Spider-Man 2.1 on September 27 and October 4. Spider-Man 3 will finish the trilogy’s run with screenings on September 28 and October 5. Tickets go on sale starting July 25 at Fathom Entertainment’s website and participating theaters.

Along with the Spider-Man trilogy, Fathom will also bring other classic films back to theaters soon, including Clueless, One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest, and The Sound of Music.

Fans of Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man now have the chance to see the extended edition on the big screen for the first time, with a new poster to mark the special release.
