Spider-Man fans are going to have to wait even longer for the next big chapter in Miles Morales’ story. Sony has pushed back the release of Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse once again.

The movie was supposed to hit theaters on June 4, 2027, but now it’s coming out on June 25, 2027. That’s a three-week delay. According to Variety, Sony made this move to catch the full summer holiday crowd since by the new date, all schools in the U.S. will be on summer break.

This delay isn’t exactly surprising to fans who’ve been keeping track of the movie’s progress. Beyond the Spider-Verse has already been delayed several times since it was first planned. Back in 2021, Sony had expected to release the film in 2023.

Then it got moved to 2024. Later, after production slowed down and the 2023 Hollywood strikes hit, Sony pulled the film from its release calendar entirely. At one point, fans were told to expect it in 2025. That didn’t happen either.

The movie’s long production history has been full of problems. After the huge success of Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse in 2018 and Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse in 2023, Sony and creators Phil Lord and Christopher Miller wanted to finish the trilogy with something special.

But as they worked on the script and animation, they realized the story was too big and complicated. According to reports, many parts of the film were reworked or changed completely as animators struggled to keep up with the demands of the project.

Sony even paused work on Beyond the Spider-Verse to focus on finishing Across the Spider-Verse first. After the strikes delayed voice recording, production was pushed even further back. Directors Bob Persichetti and Justin K. Thompson, along with producers Lord and Miller, have said they are taking their time to get the movie right. Miller explained during a CinemaCon event that “we could not run it back” and that they need enough time to finish the film properly.

The movie is meant to pick up right after the cliffhanger ending of Across the Spider-Verse, with Miles Morales on the run and hunted by other Spider-People across different universes. Lord teased that “Gwen and his other friends may or may not be enough to help him save the family that’s been the leading part of the entire system.”

Fans have been waiting a long time to see how Miles’ story ends. The first film won an Oscar, and the second made nearly $700 million worldwide.

Still, the constant delays have tested people’s patience. With the new release date set for late June 2027, this is now the latest in a long line of delays for Beyond the Spider-Verse, and fans can only hope that this time, the date will stick.

The news was first reported by Variety.
