James Gunn Reveals Huge 2025 Updates on 13 Upcoming DC Movies and Shows
James Gunn has just shared the biggest update on the future of the DC Universe since he first announced the initial project lineup. He revealed fresh details about 15 possible movies and TV shows that are planned as part of Chapter 1, called “Gods and Monsters.” With his Superman movie behind us, it looks like DC Studios is just getting started.
During an appearance on the Happy, Sad, Confused podcast hosted by Josh Horowitz, Gunn was asked about updates on 13 DCU projects that might be coming soon.
He talked about several big names, including the new versions of Batman and Wonder Woman, as well as projects that have already finished filming.
1. Matt Reeves’ The Batman

Gunn talked about The Batman 2 script, which he recently received from director Matt Reeves. When asked if he liked what he read, Gunn kept it simple, saying, “I like it.” He confirmed that the movie is still set for its planned release in October 2027.
Gunn explained a bit more, saying, “For sure, we’re headed in the right direction. So there’s some things we still got to work out, but it’s headed in the right direction.”
2. The Brave and The Bold

The conversation shifted to the DCU’s upcoming Batman movie, The Brave and The Bold. Horowitz mentioned that the film is still being written, and when he asked Gunn if he would want both The Batman 2 and The Brave and The Bold to release in the same year, Gunn replied, “Probably not. Probably not the same calendar year.”
When asked if The Brave and The Bold would be the first time fans get to see the new DCU Batman on screen, Gunn teased, “I’m not going to say that…” He confirmed that casting hasn’t started yet but addressed the popular fan idea of Alan Ritchson playing Batman. Gunn said, “I am a big Alan Ritchson fan. Both as an actor and as a guy. Let’s just wait to see what happens.”
Talking more about casting, Gunn added, “Do I ever think about it? Sure. There’s people out there I think about, but let’s see [when] the script comes in. It’s not the furthest along thing. I mean, we have things that are much much further along than The Brave and The Bold.”
3. Peacemaker Season 2

Gunn also shared a fresh update on Peacemaker season 2. He made it clear that the new season will be closely tied to Superman movie.
Since Peacemaker season 2 is coming this August, Gunn explained what fans can expect by saying, “Peacemaker [season] 2 is a direct follow-up to Superman. We have so many characters from [Superman]. Rick Flag is in it, Hawkgirl, Maxwell Lord, Guy Gardner. It’s the direct follow-up to Superman and very R-rated.”
4. Supergirl

The talk then shifted to the Supergirl movie, especially after Milly Alcock’s recent debut as the character. When Jason Momoa’s name came up in connection with Lobo, Gunn didn’t hold back. He quickly said, “Lobo is so frickin’ awesome. Jason Momoa is so…Oh my god!”
5. Lanterns

The update for Lanterns was short but sweet. Gunn commented that the show is “great.” However, a few days ago, Gunn revealed that Lanterns will for the most part be John Stewart’s story with Hal Jordan and Guy Gardner being supporting characters.
6. Clayface

Gunn also gave an update about the upcoming Clayface movie, which he said is getting close to starting production. He described the film as a full-on horror story. In his words, “This is a total horror movie. It could be like a Blumhouse big budget horror film. But it’s within the DCU, which I think is a cool thing to do.”
Basically, fans can expect a scary, horror-style movie, but set inside the DC Universe.
7. Untitled Wonder Woman movie

When asked if there’s any progress on a new Wonder Woman script, Gunn confirmed with a simple “Yes.” He gave the same answer when asked if they’ve found a clear direction for the character.
Horowitz also asked if this new version of Wonder Woman will feel different from the Gal Gadot films, and Gunn replied, “Very, yes. I’m excited about Wonder Woman right now.”
In short, the new Wonder Woman movie is definitely in development and will have a fresh take, different from what fans saw in the previous films. Rumors that dropped yesterday however, claim that Gunn and the studio are looking for a TV actress in the same vein as Milly Alcock as they prefer up and rising star instead of established names in the acting world.
8. Flash project

2023’s The Flash was one of the final DCEU films before the franchise reboot. The movie flopped both critically and commercially, largely because it didn’t lead anywhere and was overshadowed by controversies involving its star, Ezra Miller.
Still, even though Flash is one of the most iconic comic book heroes ever, James Gunn said we can expect to see him in the DCU within the next two years.
9. Aquaman project

Like The Flash, Aquaman and The Lost Kingdom was one of the last DCEU movies released. Even though Amber Heard returned as Mera, the film didn’t face as much bad press as The Flash did. It ended up being a box office hit, becoming the second highest-grossing DCEU film after the first Aquaman.
Jason Momoa has since moved on from the role and is now playing Lobo in the DCU. But just like with Flash, Gunn said fans shouldn’t expect a new Aquaman movie anytime soon. In his words, “I wouldn’t say the next two years for either of those characters.”
10. The Authority movie

James Gunn also talked about the The Authority movie, which was first announced back in January 2023. While the project is still something he’s thinking about, he admitted it’s been a difficult process, saying, “Yeah, but that’s been a rough road.”
He also shared that the writer who was working on The Authority has been reassigned to a different DCU movie, though he didn’t reveal which one. Gunn said, “I moved the writer on to another project in the DCU that I think he’s really killing right now.”
This means while The Authority is still in the mix, progress has slowed down as the team focuses on other projects for now.
11. Swamp Thing

James Gunn also brought up James Mangold’s Swamp Thing movie. He mentioned that they recently spoke with Mangold but, so far, he hasn’t turned in a script yet. Gunn joked that Mangold has been busy working on his many other big movies. Despite that, Gunn made it clear that Swamp Thing is still on their radar, saying, “we are talking about it again.”
This means the project is still alive, but it hasn’t made much progress yet.
12. Sgt. Rock

James Gunn was also asked about the Sgt. Rock movie, which seemed very close to happening with Daniel Craig attached. When asked if he hopes the project will move forward soon, Gunn said, “Hugely. Yeah, I’m really excited about Sgt. Rock.” However, he clarified that the film won’t be connected to Challengers director Luca Guadagnino anymore.
So, while Gunn is enthusiastic about Sgt. Rock, the director has changed, and the movie is still in the works.
13. Rumored Mr. Terrific & Jimmy Olsen shows

Ahead of the Superman movie release last week, the Wall Street Journal reported that DC Studios and James Gunn are considering a solo Mr. Terrific show and a show focusing on Jimmy Olsen With Edi Gathegi’s performance in Superman receiving high praise, fans are very open to the idea. However, Gunn declined to give any details, so for now, the show remains unconfirmed.
When asked about this and other potential Superman spinoff shows, Gunn groaned and seemed about to say more but stopped himself. He responded, “Can we talk about the things that are out there that I’ve actually said, as opposed to the whispers online that are sometimes made up and sometimes real?”
