The Marvel Cinematic Universe is about to bring in a fresh group of X-Men, and a new Tony Stark will eventually join them. Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige shared these exciting updates during a recent chat with the press.

Feige confirmed that after the events of 2027’s Avengers: Secret Wars, the X-Men will be recast with new actors for their own upcoming movie, directed by Jake Schreier (Thunderbolts*). This means fans will see a new team of mutants on the big screen.

Interestingly, many familiar faces from the older X-Men movies of the 2000s and 2010s are returning in Avengers: Doomsday (2026). Actors like Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, Alan Cumming, Rebecca Romijn, James Marsden, and Kelsey Grammer will reprise their roles. Stewart also appeared as Professor X in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness (2022), and Grammer made a cameo as Hank McCoy in a post-credits scene for The Marvels (2023).

But after Secret Wars, Feige says the mutants will be played by brand-new actors, along with some mutants who haven’t been seen on screen before. This follows the comic book storyline from 2015’s Secret Wars, where multiple timelines merged and changed the Marvel universe’s main timeline.

Feige explained, “We’re utilizing that [story] not just to round out the stories we’ve been telling post-‘Endgame,’ just as importantly — and you can look at the ‘Secret Wars’ comics for where that takes you — it very, very much sets us up for the future.” He also said, “‘Endgame,’ literally, was about endings. ‘Secret Wars’ is about beginnings.”

Feige was clear that this won’t be a full reboot but rather a reset for the MCU. He said, “Reboot is a scary word. Reboot can mean a lot of things to a lot of people. Reset, singular timeline — we’re thinking along those lines.” Later, he added, “‘X-Men’ is where that will happen next.”

When talking about the X-Men, Feige pointed out that their stories mostly focus on young mutants at Xavier’s School for Gifted Youngsters. He said, “They have been a place to tell stories about young people who feel different and who feel Other and who feel like they don’t belong. That’s the universal story of mutants, and that is where we’re going.”

Feige also hinted that some other iconic Marvel characters will be recast in the future, including fan favorites like Tony Stark and Steve Rogers. He pointed to big franchises that have done this before, like James Bond and Superman.

“Amy Pascal and David Heyman are now searching for a new James Bond,” Feige said, referring to the producers of the new Bond movie. “David [Corenswet], the new Superman — he was awesome. That will always be the case.”

He admitted that replacing stars like Robert Downey Jr. and Chris Evans won’t be easy. “I think it’s hard for anybody to do that when an actor has done such a great role,” Feige said. “How are they going to ever replace Sean Connery [as James Bond], right?”

Fans may also get to see some legacy actors in the future. When asked about any plans for a follow-up to Deadpool & Wolverine with Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman, Feige didn’t give a clear answer but left the door open.

“I think there is more fun to be had with both of those characters,” he said. “But we’ll see where.”

This update comes straight from Kevin Feige during his latest press interviews, giving Marvel fans a glimpse of big changes coming to the MCU.
