Suranne Jones Takes the Spotlight in Trailer for Netflix’s New Political Thriller
Netflix is getting ready to drop a tense new drama called Hostage, and a brand-new trailer just gave viewers their first real look at what’s coming.
This upcoming British miniseries mixes politics, power plays, and personal stakes, with Julie Delpy and Suranne Jones leading the story as two world leaders under extreme pressure. The show will premiere globally on August 21, 2025, only on Netflix.
The plot kicks off during an international summit between France and the UK. But things quickly spiral out of control when the husband of the British Prime Minister is kidnapped. At the same time, the French President is being blackmailed. With lives on the line and politics in chaos, both women are forced to make impossible choices.
Julie Delpy plays French President Vivienne Toussaint, and Suranne Jones steps into the role of British Prime Minister Abigail Dalton. The rest of the cast includes Corey Mylchreest, Lucian Msamati, Ashley Thomas, James Cosmo, and Jehnny Beth.
The script was written by Matt Charman, and the show is being produced by Netflix alongside Binocular Productions. According to a report by Deadline, Delpy and Jones were cast in March 2024, which is also when filming began. The series was originally shot under the working title The Choice. Scenes were filmed across the UK and in La Palma, part of the Canary Islands. By early 2025, the official title was confirmed to be Hostage.
The trailer, which just dropped this week, shows just how high the stakes are. Tense music, quick cuts, and emotional performances hint at a tight, suspenseful ride.
Hostage will run for five episodes. It looks like Netflix is aiming for a gripping, binge-worthy drama that doesn’t hold back. The trailer is already sparking buzz online, and with a powerhouse cast like this, the show could be one of Netflix’s big summer hits.
