Celebrity chef and Food Network star Anne Burrell’s cause of death has now been made public. The 55-year-old TV personality was found dead on June 17, and the New York City Office of Chief Medical Examiner ruled her death a suicide. This information was shared in a statement with USA TODAY on July 24.

According to the medical examiner, Anne died from acute intoxication caused by a mix of diphenhydramine, ethanol, cetirizine, and amphetamine.

Anne Burrell was well known for her energetic personality and her signature platinum blonde hair. She first appeared on TV in 2005 on the Food Network’s competitive cooking show “Iron Chef America.” After that, she became famous as the host of “Secrets of a Restaurant Chef” and most notably “Worst Cooks in America.”

In “Worst Cooks in America,” Anne guided struggling home cooks as they learned basic cooking skills. Over the years, she worked alongside other well-known chefs like Beau MacMillan, Robert Irvine, Bobby Flay, and Tyler Florence.

The Food Network released a statement about Anne, saying, “Anne was a remarkable person and culinary talent — teaching, competing and always sharing the importance of food in her life and the joy that a delicious meal can bring. Our thoughts are with Anne’s family, friends and fans during this time of tremendous loss.”

Anne’s family also shared their feelings, describing her as “a beloved wife, sister, daughter, stepmother, and friend. Her smile lit up every room she entered. Anne’s light radiated far beyond those she knew, touching millions across the world.”

Her show “Secrets of a Restaurant Chef” ran for nine seasons from 2008 to 2012. It earned her two Daytime Emmy nominations, including one for outstanding lifestyle/culinary host. Anne was born in New York and built a strong fanbase through her work.

Anne is survived by her mother Marlene, her sister Jane, her husband Stuart Claxton, whom she married in 2021, and Stuart’s son Javier.
