Zach Galligan Sparks Hope for ‘Gremlins 3’ with Major Update
Zach Galligan, the actor from the original Gremlins movies, just shared some hopeful news about Gremlins 3. It looks like the long-awaited sequel might finally start filming soon, but there’s still one big step left before that can happen.
In a recent TikTok video shared by @comicmoviedb, Galligan revealed that the script for Gremlins 3 is finished. He said Warner Bros. is really interested in making the movie, but it’s waiting for Steven Spielberg to read the script and give his approval. Once Spielberg signs off, the film can move forward.
“They’ve come up with a script,” Galligan said. “Warner Bros. is incredibly interested in doing it. Apparently, it’s waiting on Mr. Spielberg to read it and improve it, but, you can thank the success of Beetlejuice Beetlejuice.”

The original Gremlins movie is a classic comedy-horror film from 1984, directed by Joe Dante and written by Chris Columbus. It mixed dark humor with a holiday vibe and became a big hit, even though some people criticized it for its violent scenes. That controversy helped lead to the creation of the PG-13 rating. Its success led to a sequel, Gremlins 2: The New Batch, in 1990.
Now, the franchise looks set to grow again. According to previous reports, Warner Bros. is developing a new Gremlins movie. This fits with the studio’s plan to bring back fan-favorite franchises, like Lord of the Rings, The Matrix, and The Goonies. We don’t know much about the new Gremlins movie yet , whether it’s a sequel, reboot, or prequel, but Warner Bros. clearly wants to tap into the love for the original films.
Christopher Columbus is involved again, which might mean the new movie will keep the same tone and style as the originals. That could help bring back the magic for old fans and attract new ones.
Back in 2016, Galligan mentioned that Warner Bros., Columbus, and Spielberg all wanted to make Gremlins 3, with Carl Ellsworth writing the script. In a 2017 interview, Columbus said he had written a darker, twisted script that even questioned if Gizmo, the lovable Mogwai, should survive.
By late 2020, Columbus also mentioned that they planned to use puppets and animatronics like in the old movies, rather than CGI, though it’s not clear if that’s still the plan.
In 2019, Warner Bros. secured the rights to the Gremlins franchise and started working on an animated prequel series for the Max streaming service. The show, called Secrets of the Mogwai, premiered in May 2023 and was popular enough to get a second season titled The Wild Batch, which came out in October 2024.
It’s exciting to see Gremlins 3 getting closer, but fans are still waiting on Spielberg’s final approval before the cameras start rolling.
