4 Reality-Bending MCU Characters Who Could Shape the Fate of ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ and ‘Secret Wars’
The Marvel Cinematic Universe is headed into dangerous territory, and that’s not an exaggeration. With Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars on the horizon, the stakes couldn’t be higher.
Both upcoming crossover films are expected to dive headfirst into one of the most overwhelming threats in the multiverse: the total collapse of reality itself.
Marvel boss Kevin Feige recently confirmed that a soft reboot is coming. That means a refresh of the MCU timeline is likely, with new characters coming in (including the long-awaited X-Men) and some familiar faces possibly getting recast.
This kind of reset is very in line with both Secret Wars comic events, where multiple universes collided during a massive Incursion, eventually leading to a new reality being created.
But if the MCU is heading toward something similar, who’s actually powerful enough to destroy or remake reality itself? Turns out, we already have four characters in the lineup who might just be capable of that.
First up is Franklin Richards. The son of Reed Richards and Sue Storm made his MCU debut in Fantastic Four, and it didn’t take long for fans to notice something was… unusual. Reed spends most of the film stressing over his and Sue’s altered DNA, worried their baby won’t be normal. Franklin ends up being born in zero gravity and seems fine at first, but there’s a twist. Galactus shows up and drops a major bombshell: Franklin isn’t just special, he has almost unlimited power.
In the comics, Franklin Richards is a true god-tier character. He can warp reality, create entire universes, and even resurrect people from death. In fact, that’s exactly what he does in the movie.
After Sue sacrifices herself to stop Galactus, Franklin brings her back to life, confirming that he is way more powerful than anyone expected. In the comics, he once created a pocket universe to save heroes after Onslaught, and was even feared by Celestials. So yeah, putting him in the center of the MCU’s biggest multiverse event makes a lot of sense.
Then there’s Loki. He’s been around since the start of the MCU, but Loki Season 2 completely changed who he is. No longer just the God of Mischief, Loki ends the season as the God of Stories, literally holding the multiverse together after replacing the broken Temporal Loom. He now watches over all timelines, making sure they exist freely without being pruned by the TVA.
Loki’s role going forward is still a mystery, but he’s confirmed to appear in Avengers: Doomsday. Whether he’ll be a hero or villain, or maybe both, is unclear. In the comics, Gof of Stories Loki becomes a key player in the structure of reality, not just someone causing chaos.
Given where the show left him, he might be the MCU’s last line of defense, or its biggest wild card.
Next is Sentry, aka Bob Reynolds, who showed up for the first time in Thunderbolts*. At first glance, he seems like just another messed-up guy the government experimented on. But then he takes the Golden Sentry Serum and transforms into something else entirely. Sentry has the power of “a million exploding suns,” and he’s not just strong, he bends reality like it’s nothing.
The movie hints at his connection to The Void, a dark alter-ego that represents destruction and chaos. In the comics, The Void is literally the opposite side of Sentry’s mind, and the more powerful Sentry becomes, the more dangerous The Void gets. Sometimes Sentry saves the world.
Other times, he’s the reason it’s ending. Director Jake Schreier said that Sentry will be a major connection point between Thunderbolts* and Doomsday, so don’t be surprised if he plays both savior and destroyer.
Finally, we have Scarlet Witch. Her current fate is still unknown after Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, where she seemingly dies under Mount Wundagore after destroying the Darkhold across all realities. But nobody really believes she’s gone for good, not with how powerful she is.
Scarlet Witch is a Nexus Being in the MCU, meaning she’s a fixed point in the multiverse, and can shape reality more than almost anyone. In the comics, Wanda rewrote all of existence during the House of M storyline, famously uttering “No more mutants” and erasing almost all of them from the world.
Now that the X-Men are entering the MCU, her comic arc feels more relevant than ever. Rumors have linked her return to Doctor Doom and the multiversal chaos, especially if her kids, Billy and Tommy, end up playing a role again.
While her return isn’t confirmed yet, Marvel has been keeping Scarlet Witch close, likely waiting for the right moment to bring her back in a big way. And with reality on the verge of collapse, she might be exactly what they need, or exactly what causes the final break.
These four characters, Franklin Richards, Loki, Sentry, and Scarlet Witch, aren’t just strong. They each carry the power to unravel or rebuild the universe. If Secret Wars goes the way of the comics, we might see at least one of them create an entirely new MCU. Whether that’s a good thing or a disaster waiting to happen… we’ll have to wait and see.
