Mia Carragher Ignites the Stage as Katniss in ‘The Hunger Games’ Live Debut
Mia Carragher is set to take on the lead role of Katniss Everdeen in The Hunger Games: On Stage, a brand-new theatre production based on the hit book by Suzanne Collins. The show will open on October 20 at the Troubadour Theatre in Canary Wharf, London, and fans are already buzzing about it.
The casting news was shared on the production’s Instagram page. They posted a photo of Carragher with the words, “Meet our girl on fire.” Later, they shared a short video of her in rehearsal, showing off her archery skills with a crossbow. It gave people a first look at how seriously she’s taking the role.
In an interview with Variety, Carragher shared what the role means to her. “I’m really excited to play Katniss. I relate to her quite a lot,” she said. The character of Katniss is known for her strength, independence, and ability to stand up for what’s right. Those are big shoes to fill, but Carragher seems ready to do it.
Carragher’s journey to this moment includes years of training. She studied acting at Tring Park School for the Performing Arts in the UK and later went to the Lee Strasberg Theatre and Film Institute in New York. Acting is clearly something she’s worked hard at. She’s also the daughter of former Liverpool footballer Jamie Carragher, which means she’s no stranger to public attention, but now, she’s making a name for herself in a very different world.
The stage version of The Hunger Games is being directed by Matthew Dunster, who’s known for his work on the hit show 2:22 – A Ghost Story. The script is written by Conor McPherson, a respected playwright with a lot of experience. He’s adapted the story from the very first book in Suzanne Collins’ trilogy, which first introduced readers to Katniss and her fight for survival in a brutal, dystopian world.
This is the first time The Hunger Games has ever been turned into a live stage show. That alone is exciting for fans of the books and movies, but the team behind the production—including Carragher—are bringing their own energy and ideas to it.
With such a well-known story, a strong creative team, and a rising actress in the lead role, The Hunger Games: On Stage is shaping up to be one of the most talked-about shows of the year. The countdown to opening night has officially begun.
