The first three films of the Jurassic Park series are now available for streaming on Netflix, and the timing couldn’t be better. With a new generation discovering the dinosaur-filled world and nostalgia running high, the move taps into a growing interest in the franchise.

This digital comeback coincides with the success of Jurassic World: Rebirth, which has been doing extremely well at the box office. According to reports, the Rebirth movie has earned more than three times its $225 million budget, including a strong $308 million in domestic sales. Universal Studios is clearly benefiting from this surge in interest, and Netflix is taking advantage by securing the streaming rights to the original trilogy.

Before moving to Netflix, all three films were available on Peacock, but they recently disappeared from that platform. This switch looks like a strategic choice by Netflix to capture the attention of fans drawn back by the new Rebirth film and turn that excitement into streaming views for the classic movies. F

ans on Reddit have been quick to notice and celebrate this change, showing that the original films still hold a special place for viewers even after the latest installment.

The first Jurassic Park movie, released in 1993, made a huge impact on Hollywood with its groundbreaking use of computer-generated imagery. Critics praised its visual effects, although opinions were mixed on character development.

The film went on to gross over $914 million worldwide, making it the highest-grossing movie at the time, beating out classics like E.T., and remains one of the top-grossing films even today when adjusting for inflation. It also stands as the most financially successful movie for both NBCUniversal and legendary director Steven Spielberg.

In fact, Jurassic Park has been so influential that some experts have suggested it should be recognized as Intangible Geoheritage, because it changed how people think about dinosaurs and even altered the way carnivorous dinosaurs are popularly imagined.

The second film, The Lost World: Jurassic Park, took some creative liberties with the original story. Instead of focusing on corporate rivalry like in Michael Crichton’s book, the film centered more on power struggles within a team and adjusted the characters’ roles.

Jurassic Park III, which came out in 2001, was the first movie in the series not based directly on a novel. It did borrow some unused ideas from Crichton’s books, like the river escape and a pterosaur aviary. The film had a rough production and received mixed reviews, but it still remains an important part of the trilogy.

With these three classics now streaming on Netflix, it’s the perfect chance for fans new and old to dive back into the world that sparked a love for dinosaurs in millions of people around the world.
