Prime Video Orders ‘Joseph of Egypt’ Series From ‘The Chosen’ Creator
Prime Video is diving deeper into biblical stories with a brand-new series called Joseph of Egypt. The show comes straight from 5&2 Studios, the team behind the hit series The Chosen.
According to Prime Video, filming has already started in New Mexico, though there’s no release date yet.
The eight-episode series will tell the well-known Old Testament story of Joseph, played by Adam Hashmi (Bridgerton, Criminal Record).
Joseph is the favorite son of Jacob, but his jealous brothers betray him. After facing hardship, he rises to power in Egypt and becomes a trusted advisor to Pharaoh. When his past catches up with him, he has to make a life-changing choice that could undo everything.
Joining Hashmi are Alexander Siddig (Foundation) as Jacob, Babak Tafti (Succession) as Simeon, Daniel Peera (The Cleaning Lady) as Reuben, and Iris Bahr (Curb Your Enthusiasm) as Leah. The cast also includes Dakota Shapiro, Tannaz Shastiri, Ruben Vernier, Amir Malaklou, Moran Atias, Necar Zadegan, Matisse Ratron-Neal, Shani Atias, and Siya Maleki.
Dallas Jenkins, creator, director, and co-writer of The Chosen, will serve as executive producer alongside Brad Pelo, Mark Sourian, Ryan Swanson, and Tyler Thompson.
Jenkins said he’s excited to bring another part of the Bible to life, especially after the huge global success of The Chosen. He’s currently busy working on the sixth and second-to-last season of that series, which is set to arrive next year.
Joseph of Egypt will bring audiences from The Chosen’s New Testament world back to the Old Testament, offering another epic story of faith, betrayal, and redemption.
