James Gunn Keeps Final ‘Peacemaker’ Season 2 Episodes Completely Secret: “I Won’t Even Let My Publicist See Them”
Reviews for Peacemaker season 2 are starting to come in, but there are still three episodes that no one outside of the show has seen. James Gunn, the creator of Peacemaker, says that’s exactly how he wants it.
According to Gunn, only episodes one through five have been shown to a “select few” critics, as he told entertainment journalist Brandon Davis. The last three episodes are being kept secret to avoid spoilers.
“It could mean they’re terrible,” Gunn jokes in a video interview. “That is one option. Or it could mean that there’s a lot of major twists and turns in the last three episodes. And even though I’m sending the first five to a select few, things still get out as you know. Things got out already. You know, people who want to search can be spoiled on purpose, but I really don’t want what’s in those last three episodes to be spoiled. And so I’m keeping them close to the chest. I won’t even let my publicist see them. That’s the god’s honest truth.”
He also added, “I will also say, six and eight may be my favorite things I’ve done, like, of all time. It’s like some of my favorite stuff ever.”

Peacemaker season 2 continues the story of mercenary Chris Smith, also known as Peacemaker, after the events of the DCU film Superman. Unlike the first season, which was a spin-off from The Suicide Squad (2021), this season is part of the DC Universe (DCU), a soft reboot of the earlier DC Extended Universe (DCEU).
The show stars John Cena in the title role, alongside Danielle Brooks, Freddie Stroma, Jennifer Holland, Steve Agee, Robert Patrick, Frank Grillo, Sol Rodríguez, David Denman, Tim Meadows, and Michael Rooker. James Gunn is serving as showrunner and is writing and directing all eight episodes.
The second season was originally ordered in February 2022, with filming planned for 2023. However, Gunn’s promotion to co-CEO of DC Studios and his work on Superman delayed production. Another spin-off, Waller, was prioritized but also faced delays due to the 2023 Hollywood labor disputes.
In March 2024, Gunn announced that Peacemaker season 2 would now be filmed first. Some filming happened the following month alongside Superman at Trilith Studios in Atlanta, Georgia. Principal photography ran from June to November.
Peacemaker season 2 is set to premiere on HBO Max on August 21, 2025, with a total of eight episodes.
