HBO’s sci-fi hit is getting a surprising boost in attention as fans return to the series while waiting for its second season. The sci-fi drama ‘Dune: Prophecy’ has re-entered the streaming charts on HBO Max, showing that interest in the Dune universe is still strong more than a year after the show first premiered.

According to streaming data tracker FlixPatrol, Dune: Prophecy has climbed back into the Top 10 on HBO Max in the United States, where it currently ranks among the platform’s most-watched TV titles. The series has also gained attention in other countries, placing high on global streaming charts.

The renewed interest comes as HBO continues expanding its biggest franchises. While HBO was once mainly known for original stories like The Sopranos and Succession, the company has shifted toward building larger universes around popular brands.

That strategy has already worked with Game of Thrones, which has grown into a major franchise with multiple projects in development. HBO has also expanded into DC shows, including The Penguin, while upcoming projects like Lanterns and the Harry Potter reboot are expected to continue the company’s focus on recognizable properties.

Dune: Prophecy is another example of HBO turning a successful movie franchise into a television series. The show is based on the world created by Frank Herbert and takes place thousands of years before the events of Denis Villeneuve’s Dune films.

The series explores the early days of the Bene Gesserit, the powerful group that plays a major role in shaping the political and religious future of the Dune universe. Instead of focusing on Paul Atreides and the events fans know from the movies, the show tells a much earlier story about the rise of one of the franchise’s most influential organizations.

Although the first season received attention from sci-fi fans, the show has not been discussed as much recently compared to other major releases. Part of that may be because it arrived in the shadow of the Dune movies, which became some of the biggest science fiction films of the decade.

Season 2 is expected to arrive sometime in 2026, but HBO has kept most details about the new episodes quiet. The network did include brief footage from the upcoming season in a 2025 preview video, but there has not been a major marketing push yet.

That approach is different from Dune: Part Three, which has already created significant excitement with trailers and promotional material. However, television projects often follow different marketing schedules compared to movies, and HBO may wait until closer to release before promoting the new season heavily.

Production on Dune: Prophecy Season 2 wrapped in March 2026, making a 2026 release possible. The first season finished filming in late 2023 and premiered almost a year later in November 2024, meaning a similar timeline could allow the new episodes to arrive later this year.

If the series does return in 2026, fans will be interested to see where the story goes after the major developments of Season 1. The first season introduced major changes for characters like Valya Harkonnen, played by Emily Watson, Tula Harkonnen, played by Olivia Williams, and Desmond Hart, played by Travis Fimmel.

With more stories to explore and the Dune universe continuing to grow, the return of Dune: Prophecy to streaming charts could be a sign that audiences are ready for more from HBO’s ambitious sci-fi series.
