A Fresh Look at the Peaky Blinders Movie ‘The Immortal Man’ Released
A new look at the upcoming Peaky Blinders movie has surfaced, giving fans a clearer idea of what to expect from the long-awaited return of Tommy Shelby.
The film, titled Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man, is being directed by Tom Harper with Steven Knight writing the script. It brings the story of the Shelby family from television to the big screen for the first time.
Cillian Murphy leads the cast once again as Thomas Shelby. Several actors from the series are back, including Sophie Rundle, Ned Dennehy, Packy Lee, Ian Peck and Stephen Graham.
New names joining the movie include Rebecca Ferguson, Tim Roth, Jay Lycurgo and Barry Keoghan. The film will debut in select cinemas on 6 March 2026 before arriving on Netflix two weeks later.
Empire magazine shared new image from the film, offering the first official preview. The movie is set years after the events of the final season. The story takes place in 1940 during World War II, when Birmingham is under heavy attack. It has been a long journey for the franchise, which first appeared on BBC Two in 2013 and slowly grew into a global success. Now the movie aims to close out this part of Tommy Shelby’s life.

Steven Knight explained to Empire that the goal of the film is to wrap up the story in a satisfying way. He said, “I hope it feels like the end of a novel. It’s the last few chapters of a long novel, where you get to round it off. And prepare people for what comes next.” Knight did not go into detail about what forces Tommy back to Birmingham, only hinting that, “He gets dragged back in by circumstance.”
Cillian Murphy also spoke about returning to the role after the character’s quiet exit at the end of the series. He said, “I loved that beautiful ambiguity of him riding off on the horse, and he’s gone, and we don’t know where he’s gone to, but he’s back in the Gypsy world. Now here he is existing in whatever way that he can against the backdrop of World War II. That’s very elegant bookmarking of a story.”
The film is shaping up to be a major moment for longtime fans, bringing the Shelby story to a new format while giving the character one more chapter.
