Sydney Sweeney has opened up about the harsh comments she sees on TikTok, especially as she promotes her new movie, The Housemaid.

In a recent Vanity Fair lie detector video, she told co-star Amanda Seyfried that her TikTok account, @syds_garage, is filled with negativity. “Sadly a lot of hate,” Sweeney said. Seyfried reacted strongly, saying, “Well, f*** TikTok! F*** TikTok!” showing how tough social media can be for celebrities.

“Depends on what TikTok I’m on. If I’m on my private TikTok, my entire FYP is history facts and arts & craft. And if I’m on my Syds Garage page, it’s sadly a lot of hate about me.”

Sweeney is no stranger to online criticism. Earlier this year, she faced backlash over her American Eagle jeans campaign. Some viewers misunderstood the campaign’s tagline, “Sydney Sweeney Has Great Jeans,” reading it as a pun about genetics.

She explained to People magazine that she didn’t expect the reaction. “I was honestly surprised by the reaction. I did it because I love the jeans and love the brand. I don’t support the views some people chose to connect to the campaign,” she said, stressing that she never intended to send a divisive message.

In the past, Sweeney often avoided responding to negative press. Now, she believes staying silent can make misunderstandings worse. “I hope this new year brings more focus on what connects us instead of what divides us,” she said.
