A24 has released the first trailer for its upcoming horror movie Undertone, giving fans an early look at a quiet but unsettling story driven by sound and isolation. The film is set to arrive next year and already has strong buzz among horror fans.

Undertone is a Canadian horror movie written and directed by Ian Tuason. This is his first time directing a feature film. The story centers on a woman named Evy, played by Nina Kiri. Evy runs a paranormal podcast with her friend Justin, voiced by Kris Holden-Ried. The two have very different views. Evy does not believe in the supernatural, while Justin does.

Evy’s life changes when she moves back home to take care of her dying mother, played by Michèle Duquet. While dealing with that emotional stress, Evy starts receiving strange audio recordings from a married couple who claim they are hearing disturbing noises inside their house. As Evy listens to more of these tapes, she becomes more afraid and starts to question what is real.

One of the most unusual parts of Undertone is how it is filmed. Evy is the only character who ever appears on screen. Every other character is heard only through voices, phone calls, or recordings. According to available film details, the horror is built almost entirely through sound, which plays a huge role in creating fear and tension.

The movie was filmed in February 2025 in Rexdale, a neighborhood in Toronto, Canada. After completion, Undertone premiered at the Fantasia International Film Festival in July. The film was well received and won the Gold Audience Award for Canadian films at the festival. Shortly after, A24 picked up the movie for worldwide release.

A24 plans to release Undertone in theaters in the United States and Canada on March 13, 2026. The newly released trailer gives a clear idea of the film’s tone and shows that this will be a slow, creepy experience rather than a loud or flashy horror movie. Information about the film comes from festival reports and release details tied to A24.
