Many actors in Hollywood don’t use their real names. They choose a different name, a stage name, to use for their professional careers. This practice is common and has been happening for a long time in the entertainment industry. The reasons for changing a name are varied and personal to each actor.

One of the main reasons actors adopt a stage name is due to the rules of the Screen Actors Guild (SAG-AFTRA). This union for performers doesn’t allow two members to have the same working name. If a new actor’s birth name is already taken by an existing member, they must choose a new one. Other reasons can be more personal, such as having a name that is difficult to pronounce or wanting to create a more memorable and marketable identity. Some actors also change their names to separate their professional and private lives or to avoid being associated with a famous family.
