Allan Cumming Hints at the Big Return of a Fan-Favorite X-Men Character
Allan Cumming has hinted at the possible return of one of the most notable X-Men in the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday.
Speaking with Entertainment Tonight, the actor was asked if Halle Berry would appear as Ororo Munroe, also known as Storm.
“Well. Maybe she does [show up],” Cumming replied. “Honestly, I’m the last person to ask.”
ET host Nischelle Turner pointed out that Cumming is actually the first person to ask, given that he has leaked some Avengers: Doomsday details in the past. Cumming admitted, “No, I suppose I am…I got into trouble for talking about it earlier on. And I’ve been trying to sort of muddy the waters ever since.”
Cumming, who returns as Nightcrawler, revealed previously that much of his work on the film was done alone. “I did the entire film in isolation. Lots of green screen, face replacement. They even gave characters fake names. I don’t know who I was acting with half the time,” he said with a laugh.
He also joked about his past slip-ups, adding, “I broke the internet by mentioning something once, but honestly, I might have got it wrong.”
The actor had previously expressed hesitation about returning to Nightcrawler because of the long hours in heavy makeup and costume. However, modern effects have made the process much faster and less demanding, making his return much easier this time around.
Marvel officially confirmed Cumming’s comeback during a five-hour live stream that revealed 27 cast members for the crossover.
Along with newcomers like Vanessa Kirby, Pedro Pascal, Joseph Quinn, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach, fans were excited to see familiar X-Men actors return, including Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, James Marsden, and Rebecca Romijn.
Cumming’s tendency to spill secrets has added some humor to his return. While guest hosting Jimmy Kimmel Live!, he jokingly asked the cast of The Fantastic Four: First Steps how they avoid spoilers. Pascal, who plays Mister Fantastic, reminded him of his own track record: “It’s funny that you should ask. The biggest leak that we’ve had comes from our host.”
Earlier this year, Cumming accidentally revealed a fight between Nightcrawler and Mister Fantastic, which got him in trouble behind the scenes. “My publicist called me. You know the wrath of your publicist is, not the wrath you want to have,” he admitted.
Avengers: Doomsday is directed by the Russo brothers, with a script by Michael Waldron and Stephen McFeely. The movie will bring together the Avengers, Fantastic Four, X-Men, New Avengers, and Wakandans as they face Doctor Doom, played by Robert Downey Jr. It is set to hit U.S. theaters on December 18, 2026, and will be followed by Avengers: Secret Wars in 2027.
Cumming’s return adds a fun and unpredictable energy to the film, especially with his history of teasing fans. Do you think Storm will appear? And how excited are you to see Nightcrawler back in action? Share your thoughts in the comments.
