Amazon Greenlights ‘RoboCop’ Reboot Series Under New TV Chief
Amazon’s long-delayed RoboCop reboot series is finally moving forward, according to a report from The Ankler. After years in development limbo, the project has now been officially greenlit for Prime Video.
The series was first reported to be in development three years ago, when Amazon announced it was exploring reboots of several MGM properties. In 2024, it was reported that Peter Ocko, known for Lodge 49, had signed on as writer and showrunner for the series. James Wan was also expected to serve as an executive producer.
Original RoboCop star Peter Weller addressed the possibility of returning to the franchise, telling Collider, “Don’t know, good question. If the stars align.” His co-star Nancy Allen also commented cautiously about coming back, saying, “I think I’d have to read something first. I think the best movie was the first one, and everything since then has not really lived up to what it should be, so who knows, maybe they’ll figure it out for a TV show.”
It’s still unclear if the newly greenlit series is the same project Ocko had been working on, or whether it will be a full reboot or connect to the original films. A previously released logline from Ocko’s version described the story as centering on “a giant tech conglomerate collaborating with the local police department to introduce a technologically advanced enforcer to combat rising crime.”
Weller and Allen both contributed their voices and likenesses to the 2023 video game RoboCop: Rogue City, which featured an original story set in the RoboCop universe. The game was well received by fans and may have influenced Amazon’s decision to officially move ahead with the TV series.
With this new series, Prime Video has a chance to bring the classic cybernetic cop back to audiences in a fresh format while potentially exploring new stories in the RoboCop universe.
It’s exciting to see this project finally moving forward, especially given the franchise’s rich history and fan base. What do you think about a new RoboCop series? Would you watch it on Prime Video? Share your thoughts in the comments.
