Masters of the Universe made headlines after a massive promotional event that broke a world record. According to Amazon MGM Studios and Guinness World Records, the film was promoted using the largest drone light show ever performed in the United States. The event used 10,000 drones and was personally recognized by director Travis Knight, who collected the record certificate.

The film is a new live-action adaptation of the classic Mattel franchise, and it is being positioned as one of the studio’s biggest releases. The drone show was part of the film’s global marketing push ahead of its release, and it quickly became a major talking point in entertainment news coverage.

Masters of the Universe is directed by Travis Knight and written by Chris Butler, Aaron and Adam Nee, and David Callaham. The story follows Prince Adam, played by Nicholas Galitzine, who returns to his home planet Eternia after many years away. He discovers that the planet has fallen under the control of the villain Skeletor, played by Jared Leto.

To save Eternia, Adam must accept his true identity as He-Man. He teams up with allies like Teela, played by Camila Mendes, and Man-At-Arms, played by Idris Elba. Together they try to stop Skeletor and his forces from destroying the world.

The cast also includes Alison Brie as Evil-Lyn, James Purefoy as King Randor, Morena Baccarin as the Sorceress, and Kristen Wiig as the voice of Roboto. Many other actors appear in supporting roles as heroes and villains from the Eternia universe.

The production of the film has gone through many changes over the years. According to studio development history reported by entertainment press, the project moved between different studios and creative teams before finally landing at Amazon MGM Studios in 2024. Travis Knight then joined as director, replacing earlier plans under different filmmakers.
