Amazon MGM is reportedly eyeing Jacob Elordi as a contender for the next James Bond, though no official offer has been made, and casting decisions are still a long way off. Sources say Elordi could have a screen test next year, including the traditional tuxedo fitting and action sequences.

Denis Villeneuve, who is set to direct the 26th Bond film, is expected to have a say in the casting, and so far, there’s no indication he would object to Elordi. A final decision on the new 007 actor is not expected until mid-2026. When contacted, Amazon declined to comment.

What makes this development interesting is that earlier reports suggested Amazon was looking for an “unknown” British actor for the role.

Elordi, 28, is Australian and has gained attention from his work in Euphoria, Priscilla, Saltburn, and the upcoming Frankenstein. Despite not fitting the “unknown British” criteria, insiders say he could be a strong fit for Bond.

“He’d make a compelling Bond because he combines striking looks with an imposing frame and a natural air of detachment that aligns with Ian Fleming’s colder, more ruthless 007,” a source said. Elordi’s performances have shown he can balance charm and menace, qualities essential for the character.

Screenwriter Steven Knight, known for Peaky Blinders and Eastern Promises, is writing Bond 26 for Amazon MGM. One insider notes the new Bond will need to look like “he could kill you with his bare hands in a trice”, reflecting a return to Fleming’s original, more brutal conception.

Elordi, who stands at 6’5”, fits the physical profile perfectly. Knight’s script is reportedly inspired by Fleming’s early novels and could explore an “origin” Bond, including his Royal Navy background, MI6 recruitment, and rise to “00” status, possibly set in the 1950s or ’60s.

Casting won’t start until Villeneuve finishes Dune: Part Three. Production on Bond is expected in 2027, with a release planned for 2028, likely in November, following the franchise’s traditional premiere schedule.

Amazon MGM gained full creative control of the James Bond franchise earlier this year after a $1 billion deal with Eon Productions. Amy Pascal and David Heyman will oversee the franchise moving forward through their Pascal Pictures and Heyday Films banners. Villeneuve’s appointment as director was announced in June, and Knight’s involvement was confirmed in July.
