AMC Theatres is giving movie fans a good reason to head to the theater during the week. Starting July 8, the company will offer 50% off tickets every Tuesday, just like it already does on Wednesdays. The deal is available to anyone who’s signed up for the AMC Stubs rewards program, which is free to join at the basic level.

This new discount replaces the old $5 ticket offer AMC had on Tuesdays for Stubs members. On top of cheaper tickets, the company is also lowering the price of its small popcorn and drink combo on both discount days. It’s all part of AMC’s plan to bring more people to theaters on days that are usually slower.

Of course, there are a few limits. AMC says online booking fees and premium formats like Imax and 3D will still cost extra. Also, not every movie or holiday may be part of the deal.

CEO Adam Aron spoke about the change in a statement shared by AMC. “Following the overwhelmingly positive guest response to our announcement of 50% Off Wednesday ticket pricing, two things became clear,” Aron said. “First, our Discount Tuesday program will benefit from clear, concise messaging that resonates with value-seeking moviegoers. So, we are changing our Tuesday prices and our Tuesday consumer communications such that Tuesdays and Wednesdays will both feature the same 50% off pricing offer.”

He added that food and drink savings are also part of the plan. “While moviegoers are not required to purchase any food or drink to take advantage of the ticket price discounts, there is an opportunity to add incremental snack purchase revenues for AMC on Tuesdays and Wednesdays,” Aron said.

AMC’s Stubs program has around 36 million members, and the company hopes more of them will start showing up on weekdays. Movie theaters are still working to bounce back from the pandemic, strikes in Hollywood, and the growing popularity of streaming at home. AMC has tried all kinds of things to keep business going, from selling popcorn in malls and offering a branded credit card to even investing in a mining company.

Theaters are also seeing fewer people overall, with box office numbers still down about 25% compared to 2019. By giving guests more value midweek, AMC hopes to keep seats filled, not just on weekends, but all week long.
