‘American Horror Story’ Season 13 Episodes 11 & 12 Recap & Ending Explained: The Twin Twist, a Devil’s Romance and a Deadly Ambush
The anthology’s crossover season is barreling toward a showdown between witches and demons, and the latest installments only raise the stakes. This ‘American Horror Story‘ recap and ending explained covers the penultimate week, which dropped 2 episodes back-to-back on FX and Hulu. The finale is set to air on October 29.
Ben (Joey Pollari) has spent the season discovering that his misery was no accident. He has since embraced his lineage as the son of Satan (Paul Anthony Kelly), which gave him immense powers to bend time and space. That sets the stage for his arrival at Miss Robichaux’s Academy in New Orleans.
What follows is an hour of unexpected alliances, a surprise romance and a family secret that rewrites ‘Murder House,’ ‘Coven’ and ‘Asylum’ in one stroke. It ends with an ambush that leaves the witches’ plan in ruins.
Ben arrives to find Cordelia (Sarah Paulson), Coco (Leslie Grossman), Madison (Emma Roberts) and Mallory (Billie Lourd) ready to fight. He fights them off easily, then explains he isn’t there for a battle and wants to join their side. Madison even greets him with a knife before he sends her flying across the foyer.
Ben recalls how accepting his father’s deal to rule the world as his emissary, should he win his bet with God, granted him new powers. Those include reading Satan’s mind, where he discovered his father devised his terrible childhood, his morbid job and even the plane crash that began his misery. That realization gave him the unexpected desire to partner with the witches against him.
Knowing he won’t be trusted on the spot, Ben descends to hell to retrieve Myrtle Snow (Frances Conroy), who came out of retirement for these episodes. After being burned at the stake in ‘Coven,’ she was sentenced to an eternal personal hell as a department store attendant in Middle America, where customers never heed her fashion advice.
While the witches celebrate Myrtle’s return, Madison stays behind and bonds with the handsome son of the devil. The episode chronicles her hilariously disastrous dating life, including Hinge dates, soap opera stars and podcasters. She had become so hopeless that she considered freezing her eggs and learned her magical prowess affects her fertility.
Ben changes all of that by wooing her with magical dates in Italy and incredible chemistry in the bedroom. As one recap put it, the bastard Antichrist makes the perfect soulmate for a problematic but loving witch.

The big swing comes when Myrtle reunites with her longtime rival Fiona Goode (Jessica Lange) with an earth-shattering message from hell. Fiona has an identical twin, Constance Langdon (also Lange) from ‘Murder House,’ and both are the product of an unwilling union between Satan and their mother, Sister Jude Martin (Lange) from ‘Asylum.’
The devil came to Jude after she was imprisoned at Briarcliff, the asylum she once ran. When the twins were born, baby Constance was sold to a couple in Virginia, while Fiona was taken by patient Pepper to Miss Robichaux’s. Jude’s lineage reaches back to the Salem witches, which explains the massive power Fiona later inherited as Supreme.
Pollari told Gold Derby that fans will have a viral meltdown over the twist, adding “cue the GIFs, cue the memes.” When Myrtle brings the sisters together, Fiona suggests helping Constance develop her own magic for the fight ahead.

Cordelia is heartbroken to learn she also has Lucifer’s blood in her hands. Marie Laveau helps her snap out of it, and after Ben rescues Queenie (Gabourey Sidibe) from hell, the witches plan to unite white and Black magic to stop the devil once and for all.
The plan involves a potion triggered by a hair from Mr. Nas, Satan’s aging human form, who would mark his ascent to power if he reaches 100 years old. Cordelia and Queenie must ambush him at his Apollyon penthouse and cast a spell reversing his age so he remains a baby forever, with the coven guarding him until the end of time.
But the best laid plans go wrong. Just as the ritual begins, Mr. Phibes (John Waters) and the Rubber Man ambush Cordelia and Queenie and violently kill them. Ben is also knocked out by his father.
The ending leaves the witches without their Supreme and with one prized spell unfinished. It also raises a huge question about whether Mallory will rise to finish what Cordelia couldn’t, or whether the newly discovered twins will save the day. Either way, hope is in short supply heading into the final hour.
Who has the best chance of defeating Satan?
