‘American Horror Story’ Season 13 First-Look Photos Tease a Coven Reunion and a Brand New Face in the Franchise
Fall television is about to get a lot spookier, and ‘American Horror Story‘ fans have spent the summer counting down to the franchise’s long awaited return. Ryan Murphy’s anthology series has built its reputation on shocking twists and star studded casts, and this next chapter looks poised to lean into nostalgia harder than ever before.
The thirteenth season began filming on April 6, 2026, and wrapped production on July 28, 2026, with the season set to premiere on FX on September 24, 2026. The account DiscussingFilm shared a fresh batch of character images on X, offering fans their most detailed look yet at the ensemble ahead of the premiere.
The images highlight Jessica Lange, Sarah Paulson, Angela Bassett, Emma Roberts, Evan Peters and newcomer Paul Anthony Kelly, confirming the show’s biggest reunion of franchise veterans in years. Lange’s casting marks her return to the franchise after eight years away, having previously insisted she was finished with the series altogether. Murphy confirmed Paulson would reprise her role as Cordelia Goode with an Instagram post announcing that the Robichaux Academy had been rebuilt for the new season.
Paulson’s casting has fueled speculation that Season 13 could revisit the story of 2013’s ‘Coven’, especially since Paulson previously expressed interest in exploring how Cordelia’s powers might have changed her character over time. Angela Bassett, Kathy Bates, Emma Roberts, Billie Lourd, Gabourey Sidibe and Leslie Grossman all return alongside Lange and Paulson, rounding out a cast that reads more like a franchise victory lap than a typical new season.
Paul Anthony Kelly’s inclusion in the new images stands out as one of the more intriguing details, since he is one of several new faces joining the ‘AHS’ universe for the first time. He joins fellow newcomers Ariana Grande, John Waters, Joey Pollari and Alex Consani, all making their franchise debuts this season. Fans on social media have already begun theorizing about how these fresh additions will slot into a story so heavily built around returning characters.
Murphy is reportedly directing the season’s premiere episode himself, marking only the fourth ‘AHS’ episode he has personally directed and his first directing credit for the show in over a decade. That level of hands on involvement suggests just how important this season is to the franchise’s future, especially after a gap year with no new installment.
The series has generated more than one hundred Emmy nominations since its 2011 debut and has been streamed over 700 million hours worldwide. With that kind of legacy on the line, Season 13 looks like a deliberate attempt to remind audiences why the franchise became appointment television in the first place.
With Lange back in the fold, Paulson possibly reclaiming her Supreme mantle, and a wave of newcomers ready to shake things up, which face from these first look photos has you most excited to see back on screen this September.
