Amy Poehler opened Saturday Night Live with a monologue celebrating the show’s 50th anniversary and taking a few playful jabs at modern technology.

Speaking to the live audience, Poehler, who also hosts the podcast The Good Hang, said it was “actually a very special night for the show, not just because I’m here, but because 50 years ago today, on Oct. 11, 1975, the very first episode of SNL aired.”

She joked about how much the world has changed since then, noting that “women couldn’t even have credit cards yet. Yeah, but now I’m kind of like, ‘Somebody take my credit card away,’ am I right?”

The comedian also addressed Tilly Norwood, the new AI-generated actress who has been making waves in Hollywood. Poehler recalled her own dreams of acting back in the 1970s, saying, “I remember watching the show in the ’70s, sitting in my house in Burlington, Massachusetts thinking, ‘I wanna be an actress someday, at least until they invent an AI actress who’s funnier and willing to do full frontal.’”

Later in the monologue, Poehler acknowledged that times can feel difficult but emphasized the importance of laughter. She added a pointed message for the AI star, saying, “And to that little AI robot watching TV right now who wants to be on this stage someday, I say to you, ‘Beep boop beep boop.’ Which translates to, ‘You’ll never be able to write a joke, you stupid robot.’”

Poehler ended the segment with a humorous reminder that she’s still available for bold comedic roles herself, noting, “And I am willing to do front full frontal, but nobody’s asked me, okay!”

This playful roast highlights both SNL’s milestone and the growing conversation around AI in entertainment. Poehler’s remarks have sparked discussions online about the role of AI in comedy and how it compares to human performers.
