Anakin Skywalker’s ‘Ahsoka’ Season 2 Costume Just Teased a Wild Clone Wars Return

Ahsoka‘ has spent the past few years slowly rebuilding one of the most beloved relationships in the ‘Star Wars’ galaxy, the bond between Ahsoka Tano and her old master, Anakin Skywalker. Hayden Christensen’s return to the role reignited a wave of nostalgia among fans who grew up watching the character evolve across the prequels and ‘The Clone Wars.’ With Season 2 now deep in the pipeline, Lucasfilm has been doling out small hints about what’s ahead, and this weekend’s D23 event delivered one of the biggest yet.

Season 1 gave Christensen two very different appearances as Anakin. He first showed up in a flashback inside the World Between Worlds, then closed out the finale as a Force Ghost quietly watching over Sabine Wren and Ahsoka on the planet Peridea. Because of that ending, most fans assumed his Season 2 presence would stick to spectral form, a comforting but limited role for one of the franchise’s most complicated figures.

That assumption changed the moment a costume display for ‘Ahsoka’ Season 2 appeared on the D23 show floor. The mannequin showed Christensen’s Anakin in a heavy, fur-collared winter coat, a look fans instantly recognized from ‘The Clone Wars’ episode ‘Trespass,’ confirming another live-action flashback to the animated series is on the way.

That detail matters because it rules out the Force Ghost-only theory entirely. As ComicBook.com first pointed out, the design is unmistakably lifted from Anakin’s snow gear during the Clone Wars-era mission that first aired in the animated series, meaning the character is set to physically appear in the past once again rather than simply hover as a spectral presence.

The costume reveal has already sent fan speculation into overdrive, particularly around a long-running hope that Ewan McGregor might finally share the screen with Christensen again as Obi-Wan Kenobi. Both actors have spoken for years about wanting to revisit the Clone Wars period together, and a live-action flashback built around that era only strengthens the theory. Even without McGregor, though, a full flashback sequence featuring Ahsoka, Anakin, and their old dynamic would be a major moment for a fandom that has waited a long time to see that chapter dramatized outside of animation.

Christensen has hinted before that his Season 2 wardrobe wouldn’t just repeat what audiences already saw. Speaking at Star Wars Celebration, he admitted he was ready to step outside the character’s most familiar silhouette, saying, “As much as I love the traditional Jedi robes I wore during the prequels, it was exciting to get to see Anakin with a new look.”

Given how much his costuming shifted throughout Season 1, moving between dark robes and Clone Wars armor, it tracks that Lucasfilm would keep experimenting with different eras of Anakin’s life now that the character is untethered from a single timeline. The ‘Trespass’ snowsuit is simply the newest piece of that puzzle, and it strongly suggests the show still has plenty of Anakin history left to mine.

With ‘Ahsoka’ Season 2 aiming for an early 2027 premiere on Disney+, this costume reveal is likely just the first of several D23 surprises. Rosario Dawson returns as the title character, with Dave Filoni once again writing and overseeing the series in his current role as Lucasfilm’s president and chief creative officer.

A full trailer feels increasingly close, and if the winter gear is any indication, longtime fans of ‘The Clone Wars’ have real reason to get excited about what’s coming next. The show has already proven willing to bend its own timeline to bring Anakin back in new forms, and this latest reveal suggests that experimentation is far from finished.

What do you think Anakin’s Clone Wars return means for ‘Ahsoka’ Season 2?
