Andrew Garfield Teases Fans on Possible Spider-Man Return in ‘Avengers: Secret Wars’
Marvel fans are buzzing with excitement over Avengers: Secret Wars, Marvel Studios’ next big crossover event.
The movie was first announced at San Diego Comic-Con in July 2022, with Jack Shafer Waldron initially set to write the script. In July 2024, the Russo brothers were confirmed as directors and producers, with Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely taking over writing duties.
Robert Downey Jr. was also revealed to be joining the cast as Doctor Doom. Filming is expected to begin in mid-2026 at Pinewood Studios in England and will last around six months. The film is scheduled for release on December 17, 2027.
The main cast of the Fantastic Four will return from their previous movie, Doomsday, but beyond that, details about the plot remain scarce. One persistent rumor has captured fans’ attention: the possible return of Andrew Garfield as Spider-Man.
Garfield, who played Spider-Man in The Amazing Spider-Man (2012) and The Amazing Spider-Man 2 (2014), has hinted at the possibility without giving a clear answer.
Speaking to MTV about the rumor, he said, “You’ll find out! Whatever response I’m having, is it exasperation? Is it? I don’t know. You’ll find out.”

Fans were thrilled to see Garfield share the screen with Tom Holland and Tobey Maguire in Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021), which confirmed that his Spider-Man remains a fan favorite.
Interestingly, Garfield admitted that he kept his role in No Way Home a secret for two years, which added to the excitement when the movie was released.
“I lied to people for a good two years. I lied to the internet for two years and it felt great. It was fun to keep it secret. You know when you’re planning a surprise birthday party for someone and they’re like ‘I hate surprises, is the party happening.’ […] It felt like organizing a surprise party for a bunch of people,” he said.
While nothing official has been confirmed yet about Garfield returning in Secret Wars, the speculation has already energized the Marvel fan community. With the Russo brothers directing, a returning Fantastic Four cast, and Doctor Doom joining the MCU, the movie is shaping up to be a major event.
