Anime Sensation Shatters Crunchyroll Viewership Records in 2025
The anime Solo Leveling has achieved a massive milestone, becoming the most-viewed anime series in Crunchyroll’s history by March 2025, just weeks after its second season ended. This news was shared in Sony’s 2025 Business Segment Presentation, released on June 13, which highlighted the show’s dominance in the platform’s viewership charts.
The second season of Solo Leveling wrapped up on March 30, 2025, aligning perfectly with its record-breaking viewership.
The series didn’t just lead in views—it also earned the title of Crunchyroll’s highest-rated anime, boasting a 4.9-star average from over 610,000 user reviews. This is a remarkable feat, considering it surpassed long-running giants like One Piece and critically acclaimed series like Demon Slayer.
The show’s popularity has also boosted the original manga’s sales, which have skyrocketed since Season 2 aired. Earlier in 2024, Crunchyroll named Solo Leveling the most-watched new anime of the year, cementing its place as a cultural phenomenon. Adapted from Chugong’s story, the series first captivated audiences with its January 2024 debut and went on to dominate the 2025 Crunchyroll Anime Awards, where it won Anime of the Year among other honors.
While fans are eager for more, no official word on Season 3 has been announced. However, Crunchyroll’s Head of Theatrical & Distribution, Mitchel Berger, offered hope, stating, “We just concluded Season 2, which did really well for us, so I’m sure there will be more content in the future. We’re not sure exactly when, but it will be here and fans will continue to see the story.” Industry insiders suggest Season 3 is likely but may not arrive until around 2028, as production timelines are expected to be longer than the quick turnaround between Seasons 1 and 2.
Beyond the anime, Solo Leveling is expanding into gaming. A new title, Solo Leveling: Arise Overdrive, is set to launch on PC this fall and will reportedly be an Xbox-exclusive in 2026, further growing the franchise’s reach.
Solo Leveling’s rise to the top of Crunchyroll’s charts shows how a compelling story and stunning animation can captivate a global audience, even against established heavyweights. Its success proves that new anime can break through in a crowded field, and I’m excited to see where Sung Jinwoo’s journey goes next. What do you think about Solo Leveling’s record-breaking run?
