Anne Hathaway and Tom Holland Shine in New Look at Christopher Nolan’s ‘The Odyssey’
Christopher Nolan’s upcoming epic, The Odyssey, is generating buzz as new images have emerged of Anne Hathaway and Tom Holland in their roles as Penelope and Telemachus. Entertainment Weekly released the first look, giving fans a glimpse of the star-studded cast and the film’s ambitious scale.

The Odyssey is Nolan’s adaptation of Homer’s classic Greek epic. The story follows Matt Damon as Odysseus, the king of Ithaca, on his long and dangerous journey home after the Trojan War. Along the way, he faces mythical creatures like the Cyclops, the Sirens, and the witch-goddess Circe while trying to reunite with his wife, Penelope.
The film’s ensemble cast includes Zendaya as the goddess Athena, Robert Pattinson as the suitor Antinous, Charlize Theron as Circe, and Jon Bernthal as Menelaus, with John Leguizamo, Himesh Patel, Mia Goth, and Lupita Nyong’o in supporting roles. Nolan is producing the film with his wife Emma Thomas under their Syncopy banner.
Nolan began working on The Odyssey in early 2024 and secured the project with Universal Pictures by October. Casting wrapped earlier this year, and principal photography took place from February to August in locations across Morocco, Greece, Italy, Scotland, Iceland, and the Western Sahara.
With an estimated $250 million budget, it is the most expensive film of Nolan’s career and the first of his projects to be shot entirely on IMAX 70 mm film.
The film is scheduled for a U.S. theatrical release on July 17, 2026, in IMAX and premium large formats. Universal took the unusual step of releasing select IMAX tickets a full year in advance on July 17. According to sources, half of the 22 available theaters sold out within the first 12 hours.
