Heist stories have always thrived on structure, using tight timelines and shifting perspectives to build tension around a single high-stakes job. Apple TV is leaning fully into that formula with its next big genre swing, betting on an unusual triple-timeline gimmick to set its new series apart from the crowded crime-thriller field.

That series is “12 12 12,” and it reunites Anthony Mackie and Jamie Dornan seven years after the two previously worked together on 2019’s “Synchronic.” This time, rather than navigating a reality-bending drug, the pair find themselves on opposite sides of an elaborate European heist, with Mackie playing a disgraced FBI agent and Dornan playing an American career criminal locked in what’s being described as a “zero-sum game of cat and mouse” across the continent.

Apple TV released the show’s first teaser this week alongside key art and a batch of first-look photos, giving fans their earliest glimpse at the eight-episode series ahead of its premiere. The roughly 30-second clip shows Mackie’s character laying out the ground rules for a successful heist to Dornan’s character, setting the tone for the calculated, high-stakes dynamic driving the show forward.

That title, “12 12 12,” directly reflects the series’ unusual narrative structure. Each episode moves between three separate timelines built around the same central event: the 12 months spent meticulously planning the operation, the 12 hours during which the heist actually unfolds, and the tense 12 days of fallout that follow it. At the center of all three timelines sits an audacious raid on a bank vault buried deep beneath the streets of Zurich.

Dornan has previously described the project as a cat-and-mouse heist thriller spanning multiple continents, and said reuniting with Mackie made the production especially enjoyable given their prior working relationship. Both actors also serve as executive producers on the series, with Mackie producing through his Make It With Gravy banner alongside Samantha Corbin-Miller, and David Knoller and Jason Spire of Inspire Entertainment rounding out the additional executive producer team.

The ensemble supporting Mackie and Dornan includes Kali Reis, Jack Kesy, Agathe Rousselle, Sallie Harmsen, José Garcia, and Ólafur Darri Ólafsson, giving the show a genuinely international cast befitting its cross-continent setting. Paramount Television Studios and Anonymous Content produce the series, adding further industry weight behind the project.

Apple TV has confirmed “12 12 12” will premiere globally on November 13 with its first two episodes, followed by one new installment releasing weekly every Friday through its December 25 finale. That rollout pattern gives the show a steady multi-week presence heading into the holiday season, positioning it as one of the platform’s bigger fall genre offerings.

With a proven creative pairing at its center and a structural gimmick built specifically to keep audiences guessing about how the three timelines will ultimately converge, “12 12 12” looks positioned to become one of Apple TV’s more talked-about thrillers once it finally arrives this November.
