Apple TV Cancels Thriller Drama After Just One Season Following Poor Reviews
Apple TV has canceled its thriller series “The Last Frontier” after just one season. The show starred Jason Clarke as Frank Remnick, a U.S. marshal tasked with protecting a remote Alaskan town.
The story followed Remnick as a prison transport plane crashes nearby, releasing dangerous inmates and setting off a series of events that hint at a larger, sinister plan.
The series also featured Dominic Cooper, Haley Bennett, Simone Kessell, Dallas Goldtooth, Tait Blum, and Alfre Woodard. It was created by Jon Bokenkamp and Richard D’Ovidio, who also served as executive producers alongside Clarke, Laura Benson, Glenn Kessler, Albert Kim, and director Sam Hargrave.
Critical reception was mixed. On Rotten Tomatoes, the show holds a 46% approval rating based on 24 reviews.
The critics’ consensus stated, “Squandering a crackerjack premise, The Last Frontier stretches on for too long to sustain momentum while also leaving its potential largely unexplored.” Metacritic gave the series a score of 53 out of 100, indicating “mixed or average” reviews.
The cancellation comes as the series struggled to capture strong critical support, despite its high-profile cast and dramatic premise.
While the show had an intriguing setup and a talented cast, it seems the storytelling failed to maintain interest and deliver on its potential. Do you think “The Last Frontier” deserved another season, or was the cancellation the right call? Share your thoughts in the comments.
