Apple TV+ Delays Release of New Crime Thriller Miniseries After Charlie Kirk Assassination
Apple TV+ has postponed the release of its new crime thriller miniseries The Savant, starring Jessica Chastain.
The streaming service announced the delay in a statement on Tuesday. “After careful consideration, we have made the decision to postpone ‘The Savant,’” the spokesperson said. “We appreciate your understanding and look forward to releasing the series at a future date.”
The reason for the delay has not been officially confirmed, but sources suggest it is linked to the recent assassination of conservative political activist Charlie Kirk. The series includes depictions of political violence, including a sniper attack, which could have influenced the decision.
Industry insiders have noted that other entertainment projects have also been reconsidered or postponed following similar events.
The Savant is a political thriller miniseries created by Melissa James Gibson and inspired by an article written by Andrea Stanley for Cosmopolitan in 2019. The story follows a woman known as “the Savant,” who infiltrates online hate groups to prevent planned public attacks.
Jessica Chastain plays Jodi Goodwin, the titular Savant, and Nnamdi Asomugha stars as Charlie Goodwin. Pablo Schreiber also appears in a main role. Chastain explained that her performance was designed to protect the real-life character’s identity, saying, “I wouldn’t want to look and behave exactly like her, because I want to keep her hidden.”

The series was originally scheduled to premiere on September 26, with episodes released weekly until November 7. Variety first reported Chastain’s casting in March 2023, and Nnamdi Asomugha joined in February 2024. Other cast members, including James Badge Dale, were added in subsequent months.
Deadline Hollywood reported that the postponement came just three days before the planned premiere. While no new release date has been announced, the decision appears to reflect caution in light of current events and concerns over political violence portrayed in the series.
The Savant had been one of the most anticipated shows on Apple TV+ this year, and the delay is understandable given recent events.
