Apple TV’s Divisive Hit Renewed for Season 5
Apple TV+ has decided to keep The Morning Show going for another season. Just a day before the fourth season hits the platform, the streamer confirmed that the Jennifer Aniston and Reese Witherspoon drama has been renewed for season five.
The series follows TV anchors working at a fictional morning news show and has tackled real-life issues over the years, from workplace misconduct to the pandemic and even the Capitol insurrection. It first launched in 2019 as one of Apple TV+’s big originals.
Apple TV+ programming head Matt Cherniss praised the show in a statement, saying, “The Morning Show has been a standout from the very start, debuting as one of the flagship series on Apple TV+. It’s been incredibly rewarding to see it not only entertain but also resonate with audiences worldwide.”
“Thanks to the outstanding cast and creative team — led by Jennifer, Reese, Charlotte and Mimi — The Morning Show continues to deliver addictively entertaining and provocative stories that we’ve all come to love. We’re excited for viewers to experience the next chapter of this Emmy-winning drama.”
Charlotte Stoudt will continue as showrunner and Mimi Leder will stay on as director and executive producer for the new season.
The show has earned plenty of award attention since it launched, with 27 Emmy nominations and wins for both Jennifer Aniston and Billy Crudup. Still, critics have often been divided. The show holds a 75% critics rating on Rotten Tomatoes, but the audience score sits at only 34%.
While Apple TV+ is confident in the series, fans on social media had mixed reactions to the renewal. One user wrote, “Let’s be honest about this show. It’s just okay, but I don’t think 5 seasons type of good.” Another said, “Hope it’s the last one not cause it sucks I’ve barely seen past the first episode but because no show imo should last longer than 5 seasons.” A harsher comment added, “This show is the ultimate money laundering scheme. It’s f*cking horrible yet keeps getting renewed. Why?!?!”
The fourth season of The Morning Show premieres on September 17, and season five is officially on the way.

It’s clear the series still has strong support from Apple TV+, even if the audience is sharply divided. Personally, I think the renewal shows how much streaming platforms value star power and brand recognition, sometimes more than ratings. What do you think, should The Morning Show keep going, or should it have ended already? Let me know your thoughts in the comments.
