Atom Eve’s Powers Aren’t Gone in ‘Invincible’, but Something Far Stranger Is Happening to Them
If you have been wondering whether Atom Eve gets stripped of her abilities at any point in ‘Invincible’, the answer is technically no. But the truth is messier than that, and the show has spent the better part of a season turning one of its most powerful heroes into one of its most vulnerable. Something is genuinely wrong with Samantha Eve Wilkins, and fans have been piecing the puzzle together since the closing seconds of the previous season finale.
The mystery began with a glowing, melting superhero suit and a quiet bedroom moment, then carried straight into the new season where Eve’s signature pink constructs have started fizzling out at the worst possible times. So no, she has not been depowered in the traditional sense. What is actually happening to her is much more personal, much more comic-accurate, and a lot more devastating.
The Strange Case of Atom Eve’s Powers Going Haywire
The first hint that something was off came in the closing moments of the previous season. After Mark and Eve survived their brutal showdown with Conquest, the two finally got an intimate scene to themselves, and Eve used her abilities to gently slip Mark out of his costume. Mark and Eve never noticed that the suit was glowing and seemingly melting on the floor next to them as a result of her powers.
That single visual was the show’s way of planting a flag. The clothes were shown melting into a colorful goop, suggesting that her powers may be malfunctioning on a molecular level, which was a worrisome discovery considering Eve’s impressive power levels. It was easy to assume the issue stemmed from her near-death experience, since Eve had just unlocked a brand new level of power moments earlier.
In that fight, Eve was punched clean through the stomach by Conquest and seemingly died, only to spring back in a glowing pink form. Her powers automatically activated to rebuild her body and bring her back to life, with this new boost helping her deal major damage to Conquest so Mark could land the final blow. Because of a limiter placed on her when she was younger, she had not been able to manipulate organic matter, but being killed by Conquest pushed her body to remove that limiter.
Why Eve Cannot Control Her Abilities Anymore
When the new season picked up, those problems only got worse. Throughout the season’s opening episodes, Eve’s powers have gone from faulty to almost useless, as she is no longer able to make anything by manipulating atoms. She has been forced to fight using physical strength alone, which has put her in some genuinely dicey situations.

Her confrontation with the villain Universa was the clearest example. In that fight, the situation was almost out of control at all times, and Atom Eve had to use not just her powers but also her physical strength and instinct to get out of the situation. Eve even tried to find answers from Rex Splode, with no luck whatsoever.
Eve does not know what is happening to her and why her power is now useless, and even asks Rex for advice, though he could not find anything that would explain what is happening either, since her brain and body chemistry read as normal. The show was clearly setting up a much bigger reveal, one that would land in the most quiet and devastating way possible.
The Pregnancy Reveal Behind Eve’s Malfunctioning Abilities
That reveal came at the tail end of episode three, titled ‘I Gotta Get Some Air’. During the final sequence, Mark got up from his bed after noticing Eve was not there and headed to the lit-up bathroom, only for Eve to slam the door shut, and the shot then cut to her looking at her pregnancy test, which came back positive.
That single image clicked every previous scene into place. Eve’s pregnancy caused her powers to behave erratically and produce unintended side effects, making her abilities unstable and unreliable due to hormonal and physiological changes. The melting suit, the failed constructs, the wobbly fights, all of it traces back to the new life forming inside her.
This is a direct lift from the source material. Invincible #68 confirmed that Eve is pregnant with Mark’s child after defeating Conquest. The ending of the season’s third episode confirmed that Eve is pregnant, which explained why her powers were acting up.
What Atom Eve Losing Her Powers Means for the Viltrumite War
The timing could not be crueler. Mark is gearing up to leave Earth to fight alongside the Coalition of Planets, which leaves Eve to navigate this entirely on her own. She keeps the pregnancy to herself because Mark plans to leave Earth to help fight in the Viltrumite War, and she does not want to distract him or put him in danger by adding emotional stress.
For longtime comic readers, this stretch sets up one of the most controversial arcs in the entire run. In the comics, the first pregnancy ends in an abortion, not a miscarriage, and the confession finally comes in Invincible #79 in an abrupt and painful scene. After Mark returns, he reacts with compassion instead of anger, which strengthens their bond, and Eve eventually became pregnant again in the latter issues, with the pair having a daughter named Terra.
As for whether her abilities will ever fully come back, the comics offer some comfort. After her pregnancy ended, her powers returned to normal. The simple answer is yes, her abilities will return, though the comic story involving Eve’s pregnancy and inability to fully control her power was rather controversial, meaning the series may opt to make a few tweaks.
For now, Eve is sitting at the absolute center of the show’s emotional storm, more powerful than she has ever been on paper and somehow more sidelined than she has ever been in practice. With Thragg already lurking on Earth and Mark heading off-world, the question worth asking is whether the show should lean into Eve’s controversial comic decision faithfully or rewrite it for a new audience, and which direction would feel more honest to the character you have watched grow from a Teen Team rookie into the heart of this entire series.
