Fans of Attack the Block finally have some news about the long-awaited sequel. During a recent Reddit AMA promoting his new film, The Running Man, director Edgar Wright was asked about the status of Attack the Block 2.

Wright made it clear that he is not working on the movie, but confirmed that Joe Cornish, who wrote and directed the original, is actively working on it.

“Not my movie, but Joe has written a sequel and hopes to make it next year,” Wright said.

The original Attack the Block came out in 2011 and quickly became a cult favorite, even though it didn’t do very well at the box office.

The film followed a teenage street gang in South London who had to defend their block from an alien invasion on Guy Fawkes Night. The cast included John Boyega, Jodie Whittaker, Alex Esmail, Franz Drameh, Leeon Jones, Simon Howard, Luke Treadaway, Jumayn Hunter, and Nick Frost.

Fans have been asking for a sequel for years. In 2021, it was officially announced that a follow-up was in the works, with Boyega returning to lead the cast. Since then, updates have been scarce, though Boyega revealed earlier this year that the script had been completed.

Attack the Block helped launch Boyega’s career and is still remembered as one of the most entertaining and original sci-fi horror films of the 2010s. With production now expected to start next year, fans can finally look forward to seeing the next chapter in the story.
