Agathario Shippers Were Right – Aubrey Plaza’s Rio Vidal Confirmed as Romantic Interest of Agatha
‘Agatha All Along’ came out more than a week ago with its first two episodes. Viewers loved it at first, even though critics gave it poor reviews. But now, opinions have evened out. The show has an 83% approval rating from critics and 81% from audiences on Rotten Tomatoes.
It also managed to score a relatively big viewership, which is surprising because it focuses on a less popular character and has a storyline that might not attract many casual Marvel fans.
Much of the focus of the show was on queer representation in the MCU and even though many casual fans don’t agree with such themes in superhero media in recent times, in ‘Agatha All Along’ they feel organic and not shoehorned in like it’s the tendency with DEI storylines in the last few years.
Even before the show premiered, Aubrey Plaza teased that there might be something more between Agatha and her own character Rio Vidal.
I can’t say much, but obviously my character and Kathryn’s character have a really long history, that’s very complicated and charged and all the things. Buckle up.
Fans developed plenty of theories regarding their past, and what could have gone wrong between them. The theories range from Agatha eventually betraying Rio Vidal to gain more power to Agatha sacrificing their son, to obtain Darkhold.
Soon after Plaza’s statement, Kathryn Hahn also confirmed there’s something more to it:
it felt super-charged every time we were doing any scenes together, which was thrilling.
Now the confirmation that Rio Vidal is indeed a former romantic interest of Agatha Harkness came from the New York Times. Plaza was recently interviewed by the magazine and her character was described as a “romantic antagonist”
The first was the charming time-travel comedy “My Old Ass” on Sept. 13, followed by the Marvel series “Agatha All Along,” in which she plays the romantic antagonist to Kathryn Hahn’s “WandaVision” witch.
Whatever happened between the two of them in the past has to be extremely interesting simply due to the nature of Plaza’s character whose true identity was confirmed via a Marvel merch leak.
Rio Vidal was absent from episode 3 of the show, but following the death of Sharon Hart, it’s likely that she will replace her as the Green Witch so the coven can continue and hopefully finish their journey on the Witches Road.
