‘Avengers: Doomsday’ Declares “Doom Is Supreme” in New Promo Art as Robert Downey Jr.’s Villain Takes Over the Marketing
Few casting stunts in superhero history have matched the moment Robert Downey Jr. returned to Marvel in a mask. The actor who defined Tony Stark for more than a decade was revealed at San Diego Comic-Con in 2024 as Victor von Doom, and the internet has not stopped talking since. With the release only weeks away, the studio is leaning hard into its new villain.
‘Avengers: Doomsday‘ arrives in theaters on Dec. 18 after being pushed back from its original May date. Joe and Anthony Russo are directing, and the ensemble includes Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Anthony Mackie, Tom Hiddleston, Florence Pugh, Sebastian Stan and Paul Rudd. It is also the first Marvel film to unite the Avengers and the X-Men, and it leads into ‘Avengers: Secret Wars’ in December 2027.
Marvel’s marketing has been methodical, starting in December 2025 with character-focused teasers and rolling out several trailers since. Now a new piece of promo art is adding to the buzz. A striking “Doom Is Supreme” visual is making the rounds online, showing Downey’s Doom in his iconic hooded mask against a deep green backdrop with the tagline splashed across the bottom.

The image leans heavily into Doom’s regal, imposing presence. His metal mask emerges from the hood, and a Latverian tower rises behind the bold lettering. The green-and-silver color scheme is unmistakable.
It is one of several new high-definition visuals that have surfaced. Others carry slogans such as “Doom Has No Rivals,” “Doom Supreme” and “Doctor Doom,” and the character wears a hooded green cloak across multiple designs. One pairs the “Doom Is Supreme” line with official ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ branding.
The promo push goes well beyond a single image. A batch of 25 new posters has featured heroes like Thor, Giant-Man, Human Torch, Black Panther and Professor X, along with the villain at the center of it all. One shows Doom in a stoic pose with a raised fist, and another carries “DOOM IS SUPREME” at the top and bottom with the character in the middle.
Another poster puts Doom at the top with Thor, Reed Richards, Yelena and Gambit below under the words “Worlds Collide.” The final stretch of the wave leans into propaganda-style artwork, including one design that renders Doom’s mask as a stained-glass mosaic in greens, golds and oranges. That visual language suggests a ruler who wants to be seen as a god.

The new art arrives shortly after officially licensed Funko merchandise revealed a notable change. The collectible figures label Downey’s character as “Lord Doom” rather than “Doctor Doom.” They also show him in a green military-style uniform with gold detailing, which replaces his traditional heavy metallic armor while keeping the iconic mask intact.
It is a subtle shift that fans have been dissecting. A title like “Lord” would fit the tone of a ruler who expects obedience, and the uniform suggests a leader of a nation rather than a mad scientist. The marketing has also leaned into Latveria and Doom’s massive ego, which hints at a villain who sees himself as the rightful master of every world.
The slogan has already appeared beyond promo art. Doctor Doom even took over an Argentine movie theater ahead of the film, a sign of how aggressively the campaign is pushing the character. Putting Downey’s Doom at the center of every poster signals confidence in the casting.
There are also smaller nods hidden in Marvel’s other projects. A “Countdown to Doom” label spotted in Ultron’s room in ‘VisionQuest’ may be a wink at the film’s march toward release. Whether intentional or not, it shows how much the villain is saturating the franchise.
The film has a reported runtime of 165 minutes, and it will share a release date with ‘Dune: Messiah,’ setting up a box office battle some have dubbed “Dunesday.” Marvel has kept the plot largely under wraps, though it has confirmed that Doom is the main villain and the Fantastic Four are involved. Evans is back as Steve Rogers, which adds another emotional layer for longtime fans.
With less than 2 months to go, the campaign is likely to ramp up even further. Expect more trailers, more TV spots and more artwork that makes the case for Doom’s supremacy. The studio clearly wants audiences walking into theaters convinced that he is unstoppable.
