Marvel’s road to ‘Avengers: Doomsday‘ has been anything but quiet this year. Between a record-shattering trailer debut and a nonstop marketing campaign, the studio has spent months building anticipation for what’s shaping up to be one of the biggest theatrical events of the year.

That hype has been fueled in part by the blockbuster success already playing out in theaters. ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ has grossed more than $2.4 billion worldwide since Sony released it in late July, and this week it’s expected to pass ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ as the highest-grossing film in U.S. box office history before inflation.

Against that backdrop, ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ has now hit a milestone of its own. The film has officially crossed $50 million in domestic box office presales a full three months ahead of its December 18 release, a figure announced by Disney Senior EVP and Chief Financial Officer Hugh Johnston at the Goldman Sachs Communacopia + Technology Conference.

Just as notable as the total itself is how audiences are choosing to see the film. More than 70 percent of those advance ticket sales have gone toward the premium Infinity Vision format, signaling that fans aren’t just eager to see ‘Doomsday’ early, they want the biggest possible version of it.

That premium push comes at an interesting moment for the release, since ‘Doomsday’ will be competing for large-format screens with ‘Dune: Part Three’ when both arrive in the same holiday window, and Denis Villeneuve’s film has already secured IMAX screens for its own opening weekend. With multiplex space at a premium, the strength of Infinity Vision presales suggests theaters are already prioritizing ‘Doomsday’ where it counts.

None of this is happening in a vacuum. The film’s July trailer became the second-biggest movie trailer launch of all time and now stands as Disney’s most-viewed trailer in history, a record that has clearly translated into real ticket-buying momentum months before the movie even opens.

Marvel’s marketing team has also leaned into spectacle to keep fans engaged. A cast-reveal livestream that unveiled the Doomsday lineup through names printed on the backs of set chairs pulled in 275 million digital views and 3.1 million social media mentions on its own.

That same promotional energy has spilled over into nostalgia plays elsewhere in the MCU calendar. ‘Avengers: Endgame: Encore,’ an extended rerelease of the original 2019 film, is heading back to theaters on September 25, and its trailer alone earned 77 million views in its first 24 hours, more than four times larger than any rerelease trailer has ever managed.

The cumulative effect of all this activity has been impossible to ignore on the streaming side as well. Disney has reported that Marvel Studios titles racked up over 420 million hours of viewing on Disney+ in August, the highest monthly total the studio has ever recorded on the platform, with Doomsday anticipation alone credited for more than 200 million of those hours.

Taken together, the presale numbers, the trailer records, and the streaming surge all point in the same direction. After a stretch of years where Marvel faced mixed box office results and cooler fan reception, the response building around ‘Doomsday’ suggests the franchise has found real momentum again heading into its next chapter.

More Marvel content is also on deck to keep that momentum rolling before ‘Doomsday’ even hits theaters. ‘VisionQuest’ is set to premiere on Disney+ on October 14, giving fans another reason to stay locked into the MCU as the countdown to December continues.
