‘Avengers: Doomsday’ Poster Puts Doctor Doom’s Latverian Witches in the Spotlight

Marvel’s marketing for ‘Avengers: Doomsday‘ has been unusually focused on one man. Since the summer, nearly every poster and promotional piece has centered on Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom, and the studio’s campaign shows no signs of changing. Each new piece of art tends to set off a fresh round of fan analysis.

That pattern began early. The first Doom-only poster arrived alongside the first full trailer, showing Victor von Doom bowing his head before a Latverian mural. A later one-sheet released on Aug. 14 showed him in a dark green cloak before tall, green-tinted stained-glass windows, and a poster that followed the Hall H panel at San Diego Comic-Con kept the Doom-only focus.

Now another piece of artwork is making the rounds. A Spanish-language poster for the film has started circulating online, shared by the fan account drdoomarchive, which says it came from Comic Con Málaga. The artwork shows Doom from behind, cloaked and hooded, climbing a long staircase toward a towering citadel glowing in eerie green light.

Hooded figures stand on either side of the steps, which prompted the fan account to celebrate Doom’s Latverian witches.

The witches have been a talking point for fans before. A recent ScreenX trailer for the film uses a 270-degree panoramic format to show extra detail at the edges of the frame, and one pop-culture account noted that Doom’s 2 Latverian witches can be seen on their knees. That detail was visible only because of the expanded viewing area.

Latveria itself is a fictional European country that Doom rules in Marvel’s comics, where much of its economy depends on his high-tech inventions. The film’s marketing has leaned into that setting, from the green glow in the stained-glass imagery to the throne-room staging. How much of it will matter in the movie itself is still unknown.

The film is set for release on Dec. 18, 2026, directed by Joe and Anthony Russo, and it was originally scheduled for May 2026 before Marvel delayed it. Its story follows heroes from 3 distinct universes, with characters from the Avengers, the X-Men and the Fantastic Four facing off against Doom. A sequel, ‘Avengers: Secret Wars’, is scheduled for Dec. 17, 2027.

The first full trailer, released on July 20, gave audiences their first proper look at Downey’s Doom in his mask. In a later D23 special look, Doom overpowers Thor and raises an army of X-Men Sentinels. The trailer ends with a reunion between Thor and Chris Evans’ Steve Rogers.

Marvel has also used other events to build momentum. ‘Avengers: Endgame Encore’ arrived in theaters on Sept. 25 as a re-release with 4 minutes of new footage, shot during ‘Doomsday’ production, that bridges the 2 films. The new scenes feature characters like Doctor Doom, Loki and Mark Ruffalo’s Bruce Banner.

Tickets for the film went on sale for all formats in mid-August, and the studio has kept up a steady stream of teasers. Whether the Málaga poster will receive wider release is unclear from the reporting available so far. For now, it adds another layer to a marketing push that has made Doom the face of the film.

Fan reaction has been enthusiastic, with the image spreading across social media within hours. The poster also reinforces how deeply the studio is leaning into Latveria’s look, with green light, gothic architecture and mystical figures. With about 2 and a half months to go before release, more reveals seem likely.

What catches your attention most about the poster?
