Marvel has spent months turning the road to ‘Avengers: Doomsday‘ into a slow-motion reveal. The film has been teased through character vignettes, a CinemaCon trailer and a steady stream of promotional artwork that keeps adding new faces to an already enormous roster. Each new piece of promo art for ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ sends fans scrambling to compare costumes, poses and who is standing next to whom.

That approach makes sense for a film this size. The Russo brothers previously helmed the last two Avengers films, which together grossed over $4 billion worldwide. A plot summary describes beloved heroes from three distinct universes set on a deadly collision course.

The latest wave of art zooms in on 5 characters in particular. Fresh promo images show Beast, Reed Richards, Shang-Chi, Gambit and Professor X, giving a closer look at how the film’s mix of Avengers, Fantastic Four and X-Men will actually appear on screen. The images circulating online appear tied to promotional and merchandise material rather than an official Marvel Studios unveiling. They are best read as a preview of the style rather than a final look.

In the artwork, Beast is shown leaping into action alongside Reed Richards, played by Pedro Pascal. Kelsey Grammer plays Beast, and one report noted that promotional artwork appears to depict Beast with a look noticeably different from what fans previously expected. Another image pairs Shang-Chi, played by Simu Liu, with Channing Tatum’s Gambit in the middle of a fight.

Patrick Stewart’s Professor X appears in team art alongside Magneto, Mystique, Cyclops, Beast, Gambit and Nightcrawler. Earlier art placed Captain America, Yelena Belova, Thor, Shang-Chi, Red Guardian and the Winter Soldier in comic-accurate designs, and taken together the art suggests the studio is leaning toward more traditional costumes.

The Gambit and Shang-Chi pairing is no accident. The CinemaCon trailer showed Shang-Chi engaging Gambit in a neon-lit alleyway, with Gambit charging his playing cards with purple kinetic energy and Shang-Chi using the Ten Rings to create a shimmering barrier. It appears to be a classic misunderstanding fight before they inevitably team up. The same footage also showed Mystique transforming into Yelena Belova for a fight against Florence Pugh’s character.

For Shang-Chi, it is a notable return. It has been 5 years since the release of his solo movie, and he has been mostly ignored since then. Tatum’s Gambit, meanwhile, had a solo movie stuck in development hell for over a decade, which makes seeing the 2 square off both bizarre and cool.

Beyond the art, attendees described footage showing Professor Xavier inside the X-Mansion as a bright flash approached the property, which reportedly hinted at a multiversal incursion connecting the X-Men to the film. The reports also suggest the Avengers and X-Men may start their relationship on rocky ground before eventually working together. Marvel has not confirmed those details, so they should be treated with caution.

The roster itself is stacked. Robert Downey Jr. returns to the MCU as the villain Doctor Doom. The cast also includes Chris Hemsworth, Vanessa Kirby, Ian McKellen, James Marsden, Alan Cumming, Rebecca Romijn and Florence Pugh. Filming wrapped after a shoot at Pinewood Studios in England, with location work in England and Bahrain.

In May 2025, Disney delayed the release date to December 18 to allow more time for production to be completed. It was initially slated for May 1, and ‘Avengers: Secret Wars’ follows on December 17 the following year. The release clashes with the next ‘Dune’ film, which has secured IMAX screens on release day in select markets.

With only a few weeks to go, the promo art keeps ramping up anticipation, and the Beast and Reed Richards pairing in particular has fans curious about how the team dynamics will work.
