‘Avengers: Doomsday’ Star Florence Pugh’s Venice Return Comes With a Max Mara Twist
Florence Pugh’s history with the Venice Film Festival carries a bit of baggage worth remembering. Her last trip to the Lido back in 2022 came during the notoriously tense press tour for ‘Don’t Worry Darling,’ when swirling tabloid rumors about behind-the-scenes drama threatened to overshadow the film itself.
Four years later, Pugh’s return to Venice has looked considerably lighter. The actress touched down for the festival’s 83rd edition this September, splitting her time between red carpet duties, casual sightseeing around the canals, and a packed schedule of fashion commitments that kept photographers busy all week.
Among the standout images from her visit are a set of candid shots taken by photographer Greg Williams, capturing Pugh laughing and playfully twirling a coral silk scarf on a wooden pier at golden hour. The relaxed, sun-drenched setting reflects the tone of her trip overall, a marked contrast to the guarded energy that defined her last time at the festival.

Those images tie directly into Pugh’s newest brand partnership. She was recently announced as the face of Max Mara’s debut fragrance, “Le Parfum,” a certified-vegan scent built around notes of warm vanilla and musky woods, designed to evoke the feeling of an “invisible” second skin. The campaign, shot by photographer Mario Sorrenti, draws inspiration from the label’s iconic 101801 coat, first designed in 1981, and positions Pugh as an embodiment of what Max Mara has described as a modern, authentic vision of femininity.

Pugh’s festival wardrobe throughout the week leaned heavily into her new role as a Max Mara ambassador. She arrived at the Hotel Excelsior in a precisely tailored navy set, pairing pleated trousers with a tucked-in tank, oversized Max Mara sunglasses, and her now-signature black Chloé Paddington bag. Later that same evening, she attended an intimate Max Mara dinner in a nude, sequin-embroidered ensemble.

Beyond her brand commitments, Pugh also found time to explore the city more casually, spotted shopping around Venice in a mustard yellow Rodarte maxi dress accessorized with more Chloé pieces and oversized vintage-style sunglasses. That blend of formal event dressing and relaxed off-duty style has defined her presence at the festival this year, giving fans a much different picture than the guarded, closely watched appearances from her 2022 visit.
Professionally, Pugh’s trip to Venice also ties into her latest major project. She’s serving as both star and executive producer on Netflix’s upcoming limited series adaptation of ‘East of Eden,’ taking on the villainous lead role of Catherine “Cathy” Ames in the streamer’s take on John Steinbeck’s classic novel. That dual role behind and in front of the camera marks a significant expansion of Pugh’s career beyond acting alone.
Between a major new fashion campaign, a high-profile producing credit, and a noticeably more relaxed public presence, Pugh’s return to Venice this year reads as something of a full-circle moment. Four years after leaving the festival under a cloud of tabloid speculation, she’s back on the Lido looking every bit like an actress firmly in control of her own narrative.
