‘Avengers: Doomsday’ Tickets Just Went on Sale Everywhere, and the Rollout Tells Its Own Story

Disney has been playing the long game with ‘Avengers: Doomsday‘ ticket sales for months now, doling out access in careful stages rather than opening the floodgates all at once. That slow-drip strategy has kept fans checking booking sites obsessively, wondering when their local multiplex would finally show up as an option.

The wait for a wider release has been especially frustrating for moviegoers outside the small circle of premium-format theaters that got early access back in July. Those early sales, tied to premium Infinity Vision screens, offered just a taste of what was coming while leaving the vast majority of theaters completely locked out of the booking process.

That exclusivity has now ended. Disney has put all ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ tickets on sale for every theater nationwide, expanding well beyond the limited premium-format screens that had access since last month.

The initial ticket rollout in July was intentionally narrow, giving fans access only to Infinity Vision, Disney’s new large-format certification created after Warner Bros. locked down IMAX theaters for ‘Dune: Part III’ for three weeks following both films’ shared December 18 release date. That early access covered roughly 1,000 domestic theaters, according to Variety, a small fraction of the more than 4,000 North American screens the film is expected to occupy on opening weekend.

Even within that limited pool, demand proved intense. First-day ticket sales for the premium-format release reportedly reached $16.5 million, doubling the opening-day numbers Marvel saw with 2024’s ‘Deadpool & Wolverine,’ even though that earlier film’s first-day sales covered every format and screen type rather than just premium ones.

Now that ticket access has expanded to every theater showing the film, the early sale plan has also come with a confirmed runtime of 165 minutes, or two hours and 45 minutes. While the final cut isn’t necessarily locked this far ahead of release, selling tickets on a fixed schedule means any further changes to the runtime are likely to be minor.

‘Avengers: Doomsday’ reunites Earth’s Mightiest Heroes as they face down a new threat in Doctor Doom, played by Robert Downey Jr. in his first major MCU role since stepping away from Iron Man. The film’s ensemble includes Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Chris Evans as Steve Rogers, Paul Rudd as Ant-Man, and Pedro Pascal as Mister Fantastic, alongside Anthony Mackie’s Captain America and Tom Hiddleston’s Loki.

Rounding out the cast are Florence Pugh as Yelena Belova, Sebastian Stan as the Winter Soldier, Vanessa Kirby as the Invisible Woman, Simu Liu as Shang-Chi, and Letitia Wright as Shuri, joined by returning X-Men veterans Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, and Rebecca Romijn. It’s a lineup that spans multiple eras of Marvel’s cinematic history, reflecting the film’s premise of colliding universes finally converging into one story.

Disney has also confirmed that it’s re-releasing ‘Avengers: Endgame’ in theaters on September 25 under the title ‘Avengers: Endgame Encore,’ giving fans a chance to revisit the second-highest-grossing movie of all time, behind only ‘Avatar,’ just months before ‘Doomsday’ arrives. That kind of scheduling isn’t accidental, positioning nostalgia for the franchise’s last major crossover right ahead of its next one.

With tickets now available at theaters everywhere and the film’s runtime essentially locked in, all that’s left for fans is the wait itself. ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ opens in theaters on December 18, and based on how quickly premium seats sold out in the film’s limited early release, wider availability likely won’t slow momentum heading into the holiday box office season.
