‘Avengers: Endgame Encore’s’ Reported Runtime Is Even Longer Than Original Release

Marvel Studios has spent the past year steadily building anticipation for “Avengers: Doomsday,” and part of that campaign involves an unusual strategy: sending fans back to relive the franchise’s last great crossover before the next one even arrives. That plan has been steadily taking shape since it was first confirmed at CinemaCon back in April.

Disney and Marvel are re-releasing “Avengers: Endgame” under a new title, “Avengers: Endgame Encore,” complete with a custom introduction, additional footage, and a special end tag designed to bridge the story directly into “Doomsday.” Directors Joe and Anthony Russo have framed the re-release as more than just a nostalgia play, explaining that the new footage is specifically tied to the Doomsday storyline they’ve woven back into the 2019 film.

Now, ahead of the September 25 theatrical return, a new runtime detail has surfaced that gives fans a clearer sense of just how much new material they’re actually getting. “Avengers: Endgame Encore” reportedly clocks in at 3 hours and 5 minutes, roughly four minutes longer than the original theatrical cut, which ran just over three hours when it first hit theaters back in 2019.

That additional runtime lines up with what’s already been confirmed about the re-release’s scope. Comic Book Co. previously reported that new material is exclusive to IMAX and Infinity Vision certified screens rather than standard theaters, meaning audiences hoping to catch every added second will need to seek out those specific premium formats when the film returns.

Speaking about the significance of the re-release during the original CinemaCon announcement, Joe Russo emphasized how deliberately the new footage was designed to connect the two films. “It’s critically important to rerelease the movie, and, in fact, we’ll be re-releasing the film with footage that is set in the Doomsday story that we have added to Avengers: Endgame. It’s an opportunity to create a bridge from Endgame to Doomsday in a very unique way,” Russo said, according to Yahoo’s coverage of the presentation.

Early reports on the new footage have pointed to some genuinely significant reveals, including a new Avengers Tower featuring an updated red-and-white logo, what’s being described as the first-ever shared scene between X-Men and Avengers characters, and a sequence showing Yelena Belova in action. None of these details have been officially confirmed by Marvel, but they’ve been enough to generate serious buzz heading into the film’s return.

The re-release’s new “Infinity Vision” format marks Disney’s answer to losing exclusive IMAX access for “Avengers: Doomsday,” after Denis Villeneuve’s “Dune: Part Three” secured a three-week IMAX exclusivity window covering the same December release date. Both “Endgame Encore” and “Doomsday” will lean on Infinity Vision-certified screens to deliver their premium theatrical experience instead.

“Avengers: Endgame Encore” is scheduled to hit theaters worldwide on September 25, positioning it roughly twelve weeks ahead of “Avengers: Doomsday’s” December 18 premiere. That timing places the re-release directly between two of the year’s biggest Marvel releases, following “Spider-Man: Brand New Day’s” record-breaking summer run and setting the stage for December’s crossover event.

With Robert Downey Jr. returning to the franchise as Doctor Doom rather than Tony Stark, giving fans one last theatrical viewing of “Endgame’s” version of the Avengers before “Doomsday” upends everything feels like a deliberate emotional setup on Marvel’s part. Given how much new footage has reportedly been folded into this extended cut, longtime fans may find themselves discovering entirely new wrinkles in a story they thought they already knew by heart.
