Behind the Hunt: A New Look Inside the ‘Making of Predator: Badlands’ Has Been Released
20th Century Studios has dropped a new behind-the-scenes featurette for Predator: Badlands, and it’s giving fans a real look at how wild this movie is going to be.
Directed by Dan Trachtenberg, who made 10 Cloverfield Lane and the hit Prey, this next chapter in the Predator saga is heading to theaters on November 7.
The featurette shows the cast and crew filming out in the wild with tons of practical effects.
There’s a real guy inside the Predator suit, not just CGI, which makes everything feel raw and intense. Trachtenberg says, “We wanted to be sure to give people a big screen experience that would be absolutely insane.” From the look of things, he’s not kidding.
This time, the story takes place on a remote planet in the future. It follows a young Yautja outcast who’s been rejected by his clan and is searching for the ultimate fight. Along the way, he teams up with an android named Thia, played by Elle Fanning. Dimitrius Schuster-Koloamatangi plays the young Predator, and together they face off against a terrifying apex predator.

The movie is written by Dan Trachtenberg and Patrick Aison, based on the classic characters created by Jim and John Thomas. Trachtenberg, who’s known for his focus on real locations and practical stunts, seems to be going all in again here.
The footage shows him directing action scenes on set and talking about how important it was to make everything feel real before adding digital effects later.

Predator: Badlands looks like it’s mixing the gritty survival tone of Prey with big sci-fi adventure. Seeing Trachtenberg back in the director’s chair and hearing him talk about shooting on location is exciting for longtime fans. If the featurette is anything to go by, this movie is going to deliver a full-on, big-screen Predator experience.
